Would have went with the rough rider wheels myself. They're designed for smooth and rough terrain. Just in case you hit rough asphalt or sidewalk, cruise right over all of it

well I feel like good cruiser setup is to handle all way up 80mm wheels. I wish cruiser boards have more wheel cut out so if stock wheel do not cut local side walk you can just go bigger with out risers.

Yeah I was wondering the same. I have a old LIB tech board from early 2000's I've only skated maybe 3 times. Just got out of the closet and dusted off. It's a bigger board with similar shape. I had some standard independents with I think 1/4 risers. Picked up some 60mm OJ super juice wheels and threw on yesterday. Oh I have Bones hardcore (medium) bushings. Took for a test ride yesterday and took a turn and got some wheel bite. Now I'm a bigger guy... I'm going to grab some 1/8 riser pads and maybe change my bushings to the harder ones and see if that helps with the wheel bite.

Here’s how I’ve done life when it comes to skating. Skateboards: NEVER risers. Longboards/cruisers: they’re a must have. Better wheel options without wheel bite, better squishiness when cruising, less rattle from feeling your board(exactly what you want for a regular skateboard to be able to feel your wheels hit the road) and exactly what you don’t want from a smooth longboard or cruiser.

I’m looking at buying a new cruiser board, but I’m in a bit of a predicament at the minute and would love some help. I’m looking at purchasing a pair of wheels for a new cruiser board but not sure whether to get 63mm 80A or 66mm 78A. I have a pair now that are 58mm 78A I ride mainly on empty roads and rough streets. I find that with the wheels I have now I don’t seem to roll for very long even with new bones reds bearings, as well as this I’m around 90kg. I’m a bit uncertain whether I should get way bigger wheels that are the same Durometer or a bit bigger but harder then what I ride now. Where I live the roads and streets are incredibly bumpy and poor terrains. Any help from you guys would be amazing!!! Thanks
@spark300c6 ай бұрын
this comment is old but I go by the rule thumb for bumps and gaps in pavement is 1 to 4. if encounter 15mm bump you need at least 60mm if bump is 20mm big then you need 80mm. generally for cruiser anything below 60mm is too small because 15mm gap in sidewalks are common.

How is clear grip tape??? Is it the same as black or made differently??? I'm planning on setting up a cruiser board that can also be used in a park and was thinking of getting clear grip tape but I'm just unsure about the differences.

I’m an 80’s skater and wanna get back into it. Mostly cruise around the neighborhood. Some streets ain’t the smoothest. What’s the biggest wheels I can put on an old school deck with 1/2” risers?
@jacobmcvay1232 жыл бұрын
1/2” pretty high depends if your deck has cut outs or not. I only use 1/4” riser w a deck w cutouts and I used the orangutang fat free wheels which are decent sized longboard wheels. Not too big but def not mini cruiser size. Can roll over any cracks n bumps no problem.

There are some smaller options but not as many in a classic cruiser shape. You can always set up a traditional deck with spacers and larger wheels and it will ride like a cruiser.

You would need to get riser pads to go under the trucks otherwise you'll get wheel bite when turning and it'll just throw you off your board :)

I’m 46, 6’3” 240lb. I got a birdhouse 8.5 and am relearning to ride in my garage, I beat the sh!t out of my deck while relearning Ollies, shove its, kickflips. Try to land on the bolts, but when you miss and land all tail, bend your knees to absorb the impact. I got Indy 149s since they were always the tough ones when I was a kid.. I’d say for us heavy guys adding a small 1/8” shock pad helps reduce stress. The rubber one , not a plastic riser.
