Love your content. Just a simple everyday guy that is passionate about bow hunting. FOC is very important especially those longer shots. Play around with different FOC % for yourself, you'll see like we have. Worth your time. Didn't hunt lit arrow nocks because it changed my FOC%... Next year will have time to add these to my setup. 👍 Keep practicing everyone.

Btw, in my black gold sight, I like my 3 pins in the bottom half of the housing.... my top tip is in the center....at the moment, my top pin is my slider and I can get 100 yards out of it easily even with a 420 grain arrow at 68#’s.... the pins being lower in my housing and my top pin being what I use the most helps me have a more clean picture.... just what I do.

One thing you referred to that is so very often overlooked- shooting the bow multiple days ( if possible at all). Nearly everyone has better days on the range than others. You gotta be honest with yourself that your marks are as "dead nuts" as possible. This is especially true for like 3-d or field for shooting scores. But in final analysis YOU HAVE TO KNOW that arrow is going to hit 100% behind the pin. CONFIDENCE in your equipment is paramount to success!!!!! Great video again 🤛

I'd also suggest doing this siting in right off the bat on your shooting days so your not getting fatigued/etc.

Hi Dan!! I'm a newbie, just asking, it's better to experiment couple of arrows, weight, spine, etc, or better to use one if I find the right one and get used to it, and I will know exactly how it is flies, In any weather condition. That's my thinking. Right, or wrong, I don't know. Great channel!! Kind regards: Robert from Hungary.

Been experimenting to find my sight tape too.. just released a video about it actually! Super hard to get a new sight dialed in with a bunch of wind... freakin killer. One thing I really need to figure out is how my arrows fly, maybe my vanes have too much helical or maybe i need less vanes (3 instead of 4.) fun stuff to ABT!!

I'm also am building custom arrows this year (also going with the 5mm Axis Match, 300 spine and inserts/collars, with the AAE Max vanes). We'll see what shoots best (hoping to be somewhere around 565-600 gr). Then when I go through that process with my arrows, then I'll think about getting a slider sight.

Hi. Just wondering with your 3 pin why you like to have them situated so high in the housing, for a long range setup? Surely you going to run out of scope clearance sooner than necessary? I set my roving pin just above the bubble and move the others above it to their respective yardages. Another added benefit is it allows my point of focus not to move too much when squaring up the bubble. Just a suggestion, like you said, “you do you”. Thanks for the regular content 👍🏻
@ElkShape3 жыл бұрын
Yep - I have them set-up for idea 40 and under sight picture since that's where I plan on being in on critters, but yes dropping them down will extend range if need be, I can get out to 120 with my V3 31 so I dig it! -DS

How do you make sure you are getting enough arrow clearance from your sight housing when you dial that sight tape down?
@johnnewcomb5162 Жыл бұрын
Put your housing up high and your sight pins low in the housing as close to the bubble level . If you want to get the most distance. My sight goes to 135 yards. His sight is setup the opposite.

I have been messing with fletch distance on my setup. New to me, Mathews v3 27, 27.5 draw, 28" shafts (I like a little overhang for my fixed broadheads). My question is how far foward is the back of your fletching from the back of your shaft. I use a Boeing single fletch which is why I ask.

Check out the alignment of the orange vanes at 13:19. Spending big dollars on .001” shafts, sight tape software, spinning arrows etc. to fletch an arrow like that hurts my head. How do you get such an aggressive helical? I’m using a left helical bitz and if I go that extreme I lose contact at the tip of the vanes. Is it because of the small diameter shaft? Should I be shimming the shaft in the jig to bring it closer to the clamp?

@zwiefel123 жыл бұрын
Good video however are your arrow weights accurate? Especially the 300 axis. 26" arrow length x 10.7gpi = 278 plus the 225 in the tip = 503 plus 8gn nock, plus 27gn fletchings is like 538 total grains. The only reason I caught this is because I wanted to do this exact set up with my axis but it ended up heavier than I wanted it to be. So I went with a different arrow with a lighter weight GPI. Cause like you I want my arrows in that 460-480ish range. TRex arms over here so can't have too heavy of an arrow if I want to get some distance out of it ha
@ElkShape3 жыл бұрын
Arrow weights are correct, lengths might be off in the video cuz I didn't have it written down while filming, but again, the one made for Idaho is 485 grains total weight, 454 grains for the one I have been using the last two seasons, and the one for the V3 27 is 445 grains. -DS
