A lot of people hate Neelix (and for understandable reasons), but I really like him in this scene. He is patient and helpful, and even though he is taken aback several times during the interaction, he reacts by continuing to be friendly and just explains things to Seven without apparent judgement. This is no mean feat considering how she casually talks about assimilating some of his own people. He is understanding of the fact that she isn't acting or speaking with malice and just has things she doesn't know yet. He does his best to explain things which he's clearly never expected to have to explain to anyone. It's actually pretty heartwarming to watch.

Neelix got a lot more tolerable once he stopped treating Kes like his property. I get that he was anxious about losing her, but still, he was super condescending to her in the first season and a half-ish.

I love Neelix. He almost never have any selfish intention, and no ambition except to treat everyone well.

@@jbwarner8626 Kes was very naive though, due to being sheltered and protected by the caretaker, like the rest of her people!!! As a matter of fact, when the crew first met her, she was a Kazon prisoner, probably intended to be sold to the highest bidder!!!!! She needed protecting!!!!

I thought Neelix was okay. I did find him a little annoying at first, but he grew on me after a few episodes and I liked his friendliness and almost always positive attitude with the Voyager crew as he did everything he could to keep their spirits up as they tried to get home even though they knew their chances of getting back to Earth were extremely low.

Neelix had a few rough edges, but I thought he got better over time while on board Voyager.

I get that they didn’t want to make cuts and skip through the cooking process but he did just promise a fully prepared steamed meal and proceeded to fry some goop in a wok for 10 seconds

Rewatching Voyager at the moment....after that freaky scene in Picard where she takes over that cube, scenes like this with her childlike innocence are really cool to watch. Jeri Ryan has some acting range.

I agree with you! I loved Voyager and how Seven was written. However, the writers from Picard have drastically changed her character. I am unsure how I feel about it.

…… while I get there’s moments that he is annoying, but damn…. When he was told a small number of his people were assimilated one time, he looked so sad. But still tries to force a happy face knowing 7 hasn’t learned how to social with humans yet. 😞

If the trip is supposed to last for several decades, you are supposed to make yourself cozy. Storage of foodware is not needed, since they have obviously replicators. The manual cooking, following the script, helps to save energy and makes taste better. As an italian guy, I tend to consider the assuption quite belivable.

I don't know why people didn't like Neelix. Seems like a perfectly fine person. When you have a show with two characters--Harry Kim and Tom Paris--so bland it makes me sleepy to think about them, you should appreciate a colorful character like Neelix.
