Great to see Seven's first meeting with Second/Icheb. Their mother-son like relations later was one of the best relationship on VOY. Icheb's being killed off in 'Picard' was one of the most heart breaking moment in the Trek-verse 😢

If my memory is working correctly, the Borg were already well aware of this vessel's condition - but had no desire to reintegrate it into the Collective. They cut them adrift essentially.

100%. Seven-of-Nine later found the information in a data stream on the damaged vessel. I read somewhere, years ago, that Manu Intiraymi (Icheb) auditioned for the role of First, but lost out to Ryan Spahn. Not sure if it’s true or not.

@@enkisdaughter4795 Probably of benefit that he lost out on that role, given he was able to then come back as Icheb in subsequent episodes. Like most Trek actors though, he hasn't really done anything of note since Voyager ended. That seems to be a common occurrence I've noticed - a number of them managed to get into screenplay work/directing and producing such as Robert Duncan McNeil and Roxann Dawson, but the rest have pretty much disappeared from acting.

Maybe. If they were supposed to be in maturation chambers, they could just as easily be a later-stage development of the baby Borg we saw the first time Enterprise encountered the species; offspring of the assimilated, born in the Collective. They may be genetically engineered, too.

I enjoyed the addition of 7 of 9. Kess had her moments, but unfortunately, the writers and producers gave her such a short lifespan, and her powers grew a bit too spooky, so he had to go. What I liked about 7 of 9 over Kess was her character's ability to truly become a crew member. With Kess, I felt she was just there to spend the rest of her life and see how the journey went.

Kess was supposed to stay on the show and Seven was supposed to replace Harry Kim. That's why you see Kess sitting in the commanders chair during Scorpion, a very symbolic move. When Garrett Wang found out he was getting cut from the show he cried "racism" so they cut Kess instead. Can't claim racism if you replace a white blonde with another white blonde.

@@WatchThis-ek2og, Here's my issue with your assertion: Kess's species was burdened with a tragically short lifespan and her innate yet unknown levels of mental powers in the series pilot. It's been a while since I watched the pilot, but I believe her shortened lifespan was intertwined with her powers, so the more powerful she got, the shorter her lifespan was. The writers made her too powerful for an extended stay. I liked looking at Kess, but her story was muddled with her relationship with Neelix and the crew.

@@swyzzlestyx it's not an assertion it's what happened. Kess was intended to live the rest of her life on Voyager and die of old age before it returned to Earth. She wasn't removed because the writers didn't know what to do with her. Remember some Ocampans could live up to 14 years, still short lives but longer than it took Voyager to go home. The scandal with Garrett Wang actually did happen and Janeway almost quit the show over it.

Look up Kes actress Jennifer Lien's mugshots following her any of her multiple arrests. Life has not been kind to her and there's a damn good chance getting booted off of Voyager pretty much ended her acting career. The beginning of a downward spiral.

@@PumpkinHoard oh damn and didn't know about Jennifers struggles, that's really sad. She said in interviews that she never watched any episodes in Voyager and was embarrassed about being on it, and said she knew her kids had seen a few Voyager episodes before but didn't know if she was in them. That's really sad to me, something about that entire experience really robbed her the wrong way. It's such a shame because she was a great actor and her character was one of the most interesting and powerful in the series. When it comes to 7 being added the show had a limit on how many main cast members are allowed, that's standard for most shows cuz main characters get paid more than guest stars. Adding 7 meant somebody had to go, there was a debate back then about who it should be but nobody thought Kes would get axed. Her character was being written at the time to become more important, that's why throughout her last season her powers grow, she dumps Nelix, gets a more mature/older look, and is shown sitting in the 1st officers chair in the 8472 episodes. All of that was meant to symbolize her becoming a more important character. Voyager is the most tragic Star Trek since the original when it comes to behind the scenes drama.
