Seven could be a "good" Borg Queen....There's no automatic requirement for the Borg to be evil. In fact, they are not even truly evil, they are just without any type of 'moral' guidance. Seven has had the chance to relearn right from wrong thanks to Janeway's guidance.

The next evolution of the Borg would be to assimilate Seven's experiences and as a result, she would become Mother/Queen to the new collective. THIS would be a great premise for her own spin-off and would DEFINITELY set her at odds with not only her old friends but also the entire Federation itself. It would definitely destroy this good vs evil myth-- of which the Borg as seen as evil or the enemy-- and really put the Prime Directive to the fore. Morality is a human quality and as a human quality is subjective based on so many different factors, mostly cultural. The closet to a unified code of Morality would be the Prime Directive and the laws around that. So it would be nice to see this being challenged without being preachy or hypocritically sanctimonious; like some of the earlier series tended to be. It would also showcase what it means to be human in a bio-mechanical construct.

Maybe by 7 of 9 becoming the new keeper of the Borg, it changes the nature of the Borg. The Borg always had an interest in humanity, even from their first encounter in TNG. The even turned Picard into a sort of "representative". That in of itself was very unusual for them. Also in all seriousness, the Borg Collective is enormous as we saw in Voyager. If they really had wanted to assimilate not just the Federation, but the entire alpha quadrant, they could have swarmed in and done it on mass. But they never did that, it was only small incursions, given what they would actually be capable of. Its possible that 7 of 9 was intentionally groomed to take on the role of queen. The Borg might have seen something in humanity that perhaps is so worth their interest in a higher pursuit of "perfection", a new step for the entire Collective. There is so much to consider. The Borg would know "Q" has an interest in humanity. Voyager helped them defeat Species 8472. I think the Borg decided not to fully assimilate humanity because there is a "quality" that they want but it must be done in a way that had not been able to fully grasp, and mere assimilation in their methods is incapable of attaining that new quality. So I see the entire thing with the Borg and 7 as they need her to be who she is to take the Borg to the next level.

Regarding the question of the Borg being destroyed by Janeway. I remember that in Voyager, it was never said that they had destroyed the Borg, but rather it was said, by someone, that they had "dealt a crippling blow" to the Borg. I think it likely that an empire as vast as what the Borg had, even taking into account the damage species 8472 had done, would have at least some kind of protection against data corruption at key points in the network so that they couldn't all be wiped out in an attack to a single point.

I think that with the Borg having a belief in the Collective being superior to all species they encounter, the bulk of their defensive capability is directed at those the plan to assimilate. The threat coming in the form of data corruption would not be given as much attention. The Borg concept of superiority extends beyond weaponry, tackle skill, to cyborg bioartificial intelligence superiority. That is the Borg Achilles heel. The hive mind is not capable of "thinking outside the box".

It would also ensure that should a drone ever be disconnected from the collective, they would not lose their essence. In short, it's returning to the mindset of humans before this sacrosanct notion if Individualism. Before humans were part of tribes (collectives) and shared resources, energies, etc, though they were "individuals".. Match that times 1 million with unlimited resources and you got the new Borg.. A collective of those with the possibility of individualism. It doesn't have to be a dichotomy or a paradox.. in the former collective it was the will over the mind... this is would be minds BECOMING the will. The queen after all is the one who directs it, becomes the conduit/vestige/cynosure/voice of the collective. With the New Collective, they become the children of the Mother.

You have to have the best of both worlds, the Romulans have proven to have cloneing technology and the borg have the ability to speed up maturation plus their is the lantern of the Jem'Hadar (Cloning and stable groth acceleration) Seven becomes Queen and in order to temper the collective in a solution created by her friends trying to help her she makes a clone of Picard to revive Locutus. The Queen rules the Collective with Locutus at her side. That way they can still make it about Picard in the end.

However the real conscience of Picard in the android body would still have to survive at the end of the series. The only way a Borg with Seven would work for fans is if these Borg were different than the rest of the collective and were not trying to assimulate everyone in sight. Reformed Borg as it were with their humanity restored ideally as what was happening at the start of the Picard series.

@@ThePopcast I think your possible storyline in your video is a good idea! ... of Seven struggling with whether to help the Borg who are disconnected by being a queen even if only temporary, and possibility risk loosing her humanity, or to prevent the Borg from taking over the quadrant again would be an interesting storyline. I would love to see any of the Voyager cast back again even as guest roles and Seven get her own limited series. In the end, fans would not like Seven loose her individuality I think and they would prefer she remain a champion of justice. Let's hope the writers get her story right.

Having a Borg Queen who isnt out for complete genocidal amalgamation of all life in the galaxy would be a very good thing. Imagine if the entirety of the Borg Collective was a force for Good and formed the backbone of a grander, actually free-er, more powerful Federation. A Federation of peoples who gain a unique insight into other citizens by being able to share in their most intimate emotional states (consensually of course), share insights over lightyears with a sort of subconscious "Hive Mind" that can be called upon to solve the deepest questions of the Universe. Here is something I am supposing. Let's harken back to when Q first appeared to Picard and then later he focused ever so briefly on Riker and they had the discussion as found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6OopJWei9dpl6c This was in one of the earliest TNG episodes, where Q offered Riker the greatest "gift" he could conceive, that of becoming a Q. The Q, bear in mind, are basically the very epitome of Biological Evolution and have seemingly total and limitless power over the very universe itself. But there was a cost. They were all "cut off" from one another and while they lived together in the Q Continuum they were all still just themselves. They had no real Unity. They had no common purpose to bring them together. They had no purpose at all in fact. They exist just to exist and while the Q we had the most contact with as that Imp who loved to annoy Star Fleet Captains the others seemed almost stagnant and edified. Perhaps the fear that Q had was two-fold. He would obviously have known of this competing "Collective" of Artificial Lifeforms which seem to be another group for which they have become the epitome of purely Artificial Lifeforms with no biological component and while they may have Unity, they would also lack Individuality. The two competing concepts of Individuality and Unity brought to their logical extremes are embodied by these two "competing" Pantheons of what amount to supremely powerful Beings who both suffer the costs of their isolation due to their overindulgence of the concept of Unity or the concept of Individuality. In both cases it has led to inevitable stagnation. Maybe the fear of Humanity that Q spoke on was the idea that they may serve as the bridge between the Biological and the Artificial and that one day we would be the vanguard of a new Collective born of both the biological and the synthetic. A Unity not of 1 singular mind and purpose but a Unity of Equals who while we may seek our own goals we are still capable of understanding one another at a much, much deeper level than could ever really be achieved without the synthesis of organic and synthetic. Maybe that game series Mass Effect had it right with its finale in which the opportunity was presented to imbue all life in the Universe with both organic and artificial components. Perhaps the doom of all life is born of the despair between two extremes and the only way forward is to embody the best of both organic and artificial and become something....More.

They are remembered for their raids but they were settlers and traders too. The Borg could become much more if they stop only assimilating.

What I envision is a collective of *former drones: They still have their enhancement and still can work and communicate with the hive mind when needed, but are free to pursue personal perfection. Be the best Borg you can be type stuff through learning, exploration, living life, love, and loss. Stuff Seven of Nine has already learned. As the former queen once said, 'without order there is chaos' Seven is able to put everybody in order if they start to get too chaotic, kind of like yelling at the kids for jumping on the couch. I always assumed the Borg Queen kept her individuality. The Alice Krige version sure did. She was an "I" who had emotions like anger and lust.

We’ve seen that the Borg fracture and break in the past. We can still have the perfection focused, amoral Borg collective we all love and fear while seven gathers ex-Borg and like minded allies into a different type of collective to which she is queen and individuality is retained, only briefly surrender in time of need for the New Collective. And thus the great Borg war begins… You can still have her struggle with the two sides of herself, how far she goes and her battles to stop herself going down the route of the original Borg collective. But you can’t turn Seven into a bad guy she fought so hard for her individuality. Undoing all that would be flat and disappointing.

Interesting... now that Picard is a synth. He would easily access the the memories as Locutus without fear or barriers from his subconscious. What you suggest in Sevens plot maybe what's going on with Picard in the preview. Picard could be fighting himself from his memories as Locutus.... maybe he did like to be a borg at the time he was Locutus. If those feelings emerges to the surface, who would win... the human side or the borg? Q being there is perfect since it was him that brought this Borg arc in the first place... and maybe deliberately. Since his trail of humanity is ongoing... it makes sense. Guinan role in the story, I would assume be Picards advocate on his humanity. Ultimately I can wait for Season 2 and which other favorites.may show up.

In bee hives drones and workers are also different as well, but all of them work together to form a greater body. Bees after all are eusocial insects. With that said, the concept of a borg queen never bothered me, but more how she was depicted, she was depicted as too individualistic, but I think a queen could have worked had it been done better.

I had always wondered if the Borg Queen on the Voyager series was Seven's human mother and that was why the Queen seemed so enamored with Seven. I'd like some of these questions answered at some point. Such as what happened to Seven's human parents after they became assimilated? What if anything Seven remembers about being in the maturation chamber and becoming a drone. We've seen much of her path of regaining her humanity, but what are her thoughts about having that taken away from her again if she chooses to become the next Queen? It would probably take a spin-off series just to answer these questions.

halfway through season 2 and i just came across this. Enjoyable video, very good research and inductive deductions. it feels like this season will provide the origin of the borg, which bookends the introduction of the borg by Q in TNG's Encounter at Farpoint. The only critique is that the borg growth is more ikely logarithmic and not linear.

The role of the blonde should be defendant. Anyway... I like the idea of Seven becoming Queen. I don't think she'll become bent on perfection but she'll be willing to do anything to save the Borg. Probably crossing the line into killing anyone that threatens them. She won't need to lose her individuality because her individuality has changed over the years. She went from drone to crewmember on a lost ship (small group of close family members), and when she was introduced to the larger "Home" of her family it was rotten, she became a hunter of the worst people the galaxy has to offer. The family on Voyager gave her hope she'd never experienced... Only for it to be taken away when they returned to the home she thought Voyager represented. The Federation failing to protect those in need, criminals roaming free and killing innocents (and her family) with no repercussions, Tal Shiar turning the Federation into a criminal element itself. As Queen she could start collecting the severed Borg until some minor race or political entity attacks them out of fear, she's forced to destroy their ship and all of the major powers decide the new Borg threat is too great (ignoring that it was self defense) and that could send her into an antagonistic arc. If she did anything truly evil, it would end her. She's already too damaged. Death would be her only atonement and I don't want to even consider that option. Although Paramount doesn't hold anything in Trek sacred anymore... It's just a cash cow they're going to milk until it dies then have a steak dinner. I wouldn't put anything past them now.

As a huge fan of Voyager, just finished watching all 7 seasons, for the 7th time, I always loved the 7 of 9 character, to see her become the Borg queen would be an interesting move, but as stated, it does appear she's been groomed for this all along perhaps 7 can bring a more human element into the collective, it could have been the missing link to the Borgs "perfection " all along, let's just hope that, 7 can become a queen, without loosing her individual thought, the original Queen always had individual thought, but she lacked the compassion so needed in a good leader, this could very well be the turning point for the Borg. I'm now intrigued in the Picard series, just a shame it isn't available on Netflix.

Borg Queen? If Seven of Nine becomes Borg Queen it could destroy her character development and her arc. A former Borg who found her humanity. This could make Trek fans more and more angry and they've been angry enough with the Kelvin Timeline Star Trek movies. Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard.

Picard has a artificial heart since his "accident" in Academy times, so he was partly synthetic in TNG and even more so after his assimilation. So not that big of a news.

At the end of Season one Picards mind is transfered into a synthetic body. Still played by Patrick Stewart, so i'm unsure what was the Point. But that question sums of most of my Picard viewing experience.

seven becomes the new queen, however, due to her experience with humanity, the collective that she controls isn't like the previous borg, they would be more like the borg from descent TNG, and maybe JUST maybe they become live in the alpha quad on a remote planet somewhere with the drones she's taken control of and helped them regain some of their memories and becoming a good version of the borg, but the OG borg queen would still control the Delta Quad Borg and seven would be Queen of the Alpha Quad Borg... Almost like Good vs Evil Borg.

That would be what I hope for if they do take her down a queen path. Seven has always been my favourite character I’d hate it if they undid all the progress she’s made. I think they could do allot of interesting things with maybe a partial mental connection to the oh delta Borg like seven going about teaching her Borg to be people again and helping people and she ‘sees’ the other queen who’s like why do you try theses futile efforts order would be more efficient. Probably ending up with the old Borg battling sevens new Borg and not understanding why the new Borg wins. Basically poking further at how individuality is beneficial and how hard it it’s for seven to fight her own people for it even though it’s not their fault and not being able to save all of them. If they turned her evil I’d probably never forgive them and I don’t think it’d go down well with other fans

Wow! That was fascinating! Lot of thought based on lore went into this. Too bad the writers at Paramount won't take this kind of effort to develop the character. 3 seasons of Discovery and 1 season of Picard is proof of that.

I’ve never understood the anti-trek group. Picard is part of the Star Trek franchise and denying that is irrational. It’s not Gene Rodenberry’s Star Trek and neither is TNG, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, Discovery or any other tv show or movie in the franchise. They’re all independent entertainment programs that use the skeleton that Gene set down. If you would rather just watch the original Star Trek reruns nobody will care, you won’t be missed.

@@sjng68 The point wasn’t wether Roddenberry had personal influence over the TNG, my point is each show is different from the original. To call a show “fake Star Trek” because it doesn’t hold to the idealistic structure of the original series is rather silly. Star Trek is whatever Paramount says it is because they own the rights to Star Trek. I didn’t like DS9 so I didn’t watch it, but DS9 was still Star Trek whether I liked it or not.

I really like this and it would be a great idea my only problem with this is it is stated in voyager that in the alpha quadrant there is only exit apertures for the transport network so she couldn't be able to find one leading to the Delta quadrant because there isn't one.

Seven as a queen! i believe she would feel more at home than anywhere else. i believe her more recent found individuality would be in conflict with her desire and to feel like she "belongs".. i believe that as a borg queen, she would feel that her life has purpose. either way, i cant wait to see what the writers come up with.
