So in hindsight would you say having a 40mm suspension fork would be the way to go in this event?

Thinking of the rougher parts, especially some parts in Croatia and the last ~100km - yes, absolutely that would have helped. After 400km of gravel and the constant shaking a 40mm (or even some kind of shock absorber in the stem) would have helped a lot. I started with higher tire pressure, which I think was good as the whole part in Slovenia (first ~150km) was really smooth gravel, but it changes pretty abruptly. For the final part, I actually let some air out of the tire, this already helped a lot.

@@WattAndMoreThe more I see those shakey gravel races/paths the more I think a hardtail modded with a dropbar with fast rolling XC tires would be the best for it :)

@@bikeinmotionAbsolutely agree on that and those mods are more and more visible when looking at bikes from different gravel races. Perhaps I would add some small aerobars too for the faster sections.

@@WattAndMoreYeah the Cervelo Chris Hall built with dropbar really looks dope AF.

@@bikeinmotionThanks for mentioning. I just had a look. Nice! Ulrich Bartholmoes bike from Tour Divide (1st on his Instagram) is also quite a nice build.
