Severe weather struck southeast Louisiana from Thursday night into early Friday, causing widespread power outages. Nearly 65,000 residents initially lost power, but Entergy has restored service to more than half of them. As of 3:30 p.m. Friday, about 21,900 customers remain without power, mainly in Jefferson, St. James, and Tangipahoa parishes. Full restoration is expected by Sunday, though some may regain power sooner.
The storms damaged transmission and distribution systems, with significant repairs needed for poles, wires, transformers, and cross arms. Over a thousand workers are engaged in restoration efforts, with additional resources and crews being deployed to the most affected areas. Some customers may need electricians to fix home equipment before reconnection.
