I so enjoy your videos. I think the fit of this dress looks just right for this style, not too loose in the back. The style reminds me of Laura Ashley dresses from the 1980s and 90s.

Lovely dress, I enjoy watching you stitch as you are so neat, I have been stitching for many years and I’m just trying to learn to use a rotary cutter for garments, it is so much better for slippery lightweight fabrics but I’m finding it a challenge keeping right to the edge of the pattern. If you ever have time, I’d love to see your cutting out in more detail and a bit slower? Cutting is crucial to a good garment cos if you get that wrong it can spoil the finished outcome, however carefully you stitch your project together. Thanks again for your videos, I love your approach to my favourite hobby. There are so many dressmakers here on KZbin but I find I get bored of most of them quite quickly, but I have 3 firm favourites and you are one of them. ❤

Loved the video. I might use this method of lining dresses now since when I attempt to stitch the lining bodice to the waist, it doesn't work right.

Thank you for this detailed sew along Amelia. Could you clarify a small point. Did you interface both the lining and the main fabric button band or just the lining? With your experience of lining dresses do you find lining rayon/viscose in fine cotton lawn lighter in weight than with a plain viscose? Is it also cooler for the summer? How does it effect the swishyness of the main fabric. Thank you Juliet

Your dress is so lovely! I love the fabric and you sew so beautifully. I have purchased this pattern and some light green gingham to make it with. I’m currently pregnant and plan on breastfeeding and I thought this dress would be perfect though I will probably add waist ties. :)

The measurement charts were very true to size, and had lots of bust cup options, which was great. I just found the length of the straps quite long.

@@sewamelia I went with my measurements and the finished size and it was huge. But like AmeliaI had noticed that the back seemed very big. I'm making a toile 2 sizes smaller but I think I'm going to insert 2 darts on my first toile and see how that goes.

Super video Amelia! Thank you for sharing! I really like your myosotis dress. If I was making it and I wanted to line it, would I attach the main bodice fabric to the outside part of the collar and the lining to the inner part, if that makes sense? Thank you Amelia. I hope you have a great summer with your children and I look forward to seeing your updates over on instagram!
@sewamelia5 ай бұрын
I would baste the lining and main together at the neckline and treat them as one when adding the collar. I hope that makes sense!

Need to ask another question, did you interface the front skirt where the buttons and buttonholes go. And did you cut off the facing panel or place the lining at the edge Its not easy to see on the video Sorry for the questions Gwen
@elaine581005 ай бұрын
Great explanation of how to put a lining in a dress. Not many patterns show how to do this process. Could I ask where you purchased you red gingham fabric from on the dress you are wearing and is it 100% cotton or is it polycotton? I fancy having a go at the dress Have a lovely summer!

I thought the same about the size of the back piece of my first toile. I do think that, like you, if the sizing down leaves the neck piece too big I will alter it. Not sure how I would do it. Probably takes 2 darts.
@sewamelia5 ай бұрын
Darts in the back is a good idea!
@moira70835 ай бұрын
Love the fabric! And dress is really lovely! I would be nervous of using a gathered lined skirt (as opposed to eg., pleating) in case it adds too much bulk - but I guess the fact that it is oversized alleviates that issue. What do you think? Thank you for your great videos 😊
@sewamelia5 ай бұрын
@@moira7083 You are right! I think if the lawn and viscose were not very lightweight I would have pleated or taken a lot more of the gathering out of the skirt lining. Because the fabrics are lightweight and the dress is oversized, it worked OK.

I'm making my second toile of the bodice. I Wasn't sure of the sizing. I looked at the finished garnet measurements and it just looked to big to me, even allowing for it being a loosely - fitted dress. So I sent with recommended size and it crushed me. Making a toile 2 sizes smaller to see what I think of that
@sewamelia5 ай бұрын
Definitely sizing down for me was the right thing. I hope your toile comes out well!

Beautiful work! One question did the skirt lining hem face you or the hem of the dress? This is a very helpful video as I intend to make a lined dress. I was going to line it in Satin but say a cotton like what you have used may be a better idea. Thankyou.
@sewamelia5 ай бұрын
Great question! The hem of the lining faces inwards towards the hem of the main - I think you can see it towards the end of the video briefly. I do prefer a cotton lining over a satin or acetate lining fabric, but that is just personal preference!
@gwenasprey7645 ай бұрын
Can i just ask , when did you put the interfacing on? I would have put it on before I did the shoulder seams, but it is not clear on the video when you did it. Gwen PS. Love the dress ❤
