We're so proud of Isabelle that she has successfully stopped sucking her thumb for a full 30 days now! She has put in a lot of effort to move past this habit 💕🥰

This is a wonderful resource for families looking to DIY a thumb guard! I truly appreciated the insight on the previous protypes and why they didnt work!! It addressed various models I had thought up in my own head. The details on the correct sewing needle and stitch to use were also incredibly helpful. I was concerned that information may be skipped. Well done!

This is a great idea. Both of my kids sucked their thumbs, like I did, and they usually did it with their blankies. I didn't have a problem with my son, as the dentist rewarded them with a stuffed animal when they stopped. My daughter was a little harder. We tried reminding her, putting the bitter tasting polish (which she actually liked!) and finally we limited the blankie to naps and bedtime. It took her a while, but she finally got her stuffed animal from the dentist too.

What a lovely dentist! It's such a hard habit to break but I guess they all get there eventually

This was done to me when I was about 3 or 4 years old, and I still remember the anxiety it caused. The knowledge that self comfort was literally in my hands and taken away by someone who was supposed to provide it was awful. The gloves are humiliating for little beings who don’t have the language to say so. You look like an awesome, caring mother who would never knowingly hurt anyone. And you know your children better than others. I offer a different perspective, but the sight of those devices really makes me sad.

Thanks for sharing your experience and I'm so sorry to hear it was so detrimental for you. My kids ask for them to be put on because they like having the reminder. They want to stop sucking and this provides the support they are wanting. Hopefully you have been about to seek healing with your parents from the anxiety you have suffered.

Children can be taught other ways of self comfort. Thumb and finger sucking is so detrimental to their teeth, the formation of their mouth and even speech.

@@taunajabrown405 I definitely agree. My Isabelle has loved rubbing the silky ribbon on a particular teddy as a soothing distraction and that was very very helpful

Another excellent video 😄 If you don't have either a snap press or an old piece of clothing with snaps you can buy snaps that can be hand sewn. I have this type in my Emergency sewing kit for when straps on bags brake ect 🇬🇧🏵️🐰
