Thank you, Gini! What a fab dress. I have been remembering knit dresses I wore in the 60's and 70's - bonded knits if I remember correctly - anyone remember those? They were more structured than most of today's knits, maybe stretch woven would be similar? I want this dress now, thanks to you! I call this 'Pay Attention Sewing.' I Think a shaped armhole facing would be better. Could you cross stitch at those neckline point instead of pivot? I always cross stitching lines for points, as on a collar for example. Thank you, inspiring and helpful video!

I DO remember bonded knits!!! and, yes, I should have cross stitched at my corners, even as I was pivoting I was thinking "this is dumb Gini just do it the other way" but NOOOOO I had to try the pivot 🙄

That is a sharp dress! Really interested to see what your fabric choices are for your personal make! The tutorial is great and yes, totally agree, the arm facings must lay better. That would drive me bonkers. I’m a little surprised they opted for bias strips in the pattern. They probably didn’t want to increase the skill level. You look amazing in this make and it’s styled beautifully! ❤❤🖤🖤

thank you Grace, I agree it think they didn't want to make it more difficult than it is but...those bias facings 🤨

WOW, beautiful! I like the dress, it has a really nice shape and I very much like the artistry of the pattern. The dress looks fabulous on you. I am looking forward to seeing your next one. You are amazing to figure this out, video it and meet your deadline! Thank you so very much for sharing your process in making this unique dress. I am really excited about your next video. The subject of proportions is something I would really like to know more about. You always seem to be able to make your garments look perfectly proportionate for your height, body type, and style. 🤗❤️

Really loved this. My mind went everywhere. Why would she sew that? Like her dress. How many pattern pieces? I can do that. Why the uneven neckline? Never ever will I make that. Oh really love that finished dress. Must have. Thanks for challenging me.

LOVE this dress on you 😍 Thanks for the review - I don’t think I’d have looked twice at this pattern if I’d only seen the packet images! Next week‘s video sounds absolutely great, what a good topic to talk about! Looking forward to it already!

I'm not sure why they picked those images for the pattern, they don't show any of the detail! I always look at the line drawings for Tilton patterns so I'm sure I know what I'm getting myself into 🤣

Hi there, what a GREAT dress 😍. I just love it. I didn't watch the whole tutorial but I definitely would if I were to make the dress. I really love the color blocking. I actually like the length of the dress on you.... but a midi/maxi is my thing and not necessarily anyone else's. Way short with leggings or way long is how I roll on the dress front. Your next vlog sounds like a goodie too. See you then 🙋‍♀️.

That red looks amazing on you. Beautiful dress. Kismet...I recently purchased this pattern and after looking at the instructions and all the pieces was a little intimidated. Thanks a million for working out the bugs. I'm 5' 1", so definitely going to need to shorten the bodice. Can't wait to start. 🤗
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 7 ай бұрын
yes MsLola definitely shorten the bodice, the armholes seem a little small to me so check them before you put it all together, that might just be these stupid bias bindings though 😆

WOW! l love your dress and like others would never have ever picked it until I saw your colour blocked version. Very creative and inspiring! If Vogue put your dress on the V1860 pattern cover I guarantee they would sell a boatload more of that pattern. I'm eagerly awaiting your discussion of proportion (whenever it might happen) as this is something I often wonder if I have right.

Dress looks great! Definitely your colors! So happy to hear that you felt that there needs some alterations, even though it had no lines. I find that I need to adjust many of the Vogue patterns especially MT. I have v9112 and b6784 waiting in my queue...😅

I think I pretty much always have to shorten above the waist but especially with the Tilton patterns. I have B6784 too I need to make that!

I’ve never been interested in this pattern and now your tutorial makes me want it🥰😕 Oh yes, Cheryl is about to add a pattern to my already large collection. But I will wait to see your make and then purchase fabric. I really like the sharp contrast of the black and red. I do love her patterns; it’s like matching puzzle pieces. Question: Any topstitching on this pattern?
@thebigsewalong
@thebigsewalong 7 ай бұрын
Yeah Cheryl, I really like a good puzzle sometimes so maybe that's why I'm always drawn to the Tilton patterns. I just want to see if I can do it 😂no topstitching on this one.

Wow Gini! That is quite the epic dress! it looks so awesome on you. But do you get to keep it? Or does it stay in the store on display? Totally not my style, but I can absolutely appreciate the detail and awesomeness of this design. I'm glad you're making another one, and I'm keen to see it when it's done! x

I see where it needs shortening above the waist and below but...I dont think you need as much shortening as you said. The dress looks fantastic on you even with the added length. Id shorten above the waist, then pin the pattern pieces to check the total length first. Keep in mind how tall the models are (usually 5'7"-5'9") and the fact they also wear sample sizes to get a better idea of the length the dress is supposed to be. I totally agree that Tilton patterns seem confusing but as long as you mark each piece, and sometimes the right side of the fabric, they go together quickly. I actually prefer not cutting on the fold in many cases so I appreciate the single layer cutting. Im surprised ponte is a recommended fabric given the neckline. Hard to reduce that bulk. However, its a great looking dress! My understanding is it hasnt been a big seller but I think that has a lot to do with the samples on the cover. One made like yours would have made a huge difference. Speaking of Tiltons, Katherines new top for Butterick looks like a good one. I may have to break down and buy it, lol.

I was going to say the same thing about shortening above the waist and leaving the rest of it alone. I really like the length on you, Gini. And your colour blocking is so effective I'm surprised, like others, that the pattern samples didn't feature something similar.

thanks for the suggestion Charlotte, I think I'll try just shortening above the waist I can always hem it shorter if I need to but I do kind of like the overall length especially since I usually wear boots. I saw that new butterick pattern too I might pick that up at the next joann sale. 🤗
