Congratulations. We were so poor we had to take out a loan to pay for our wedding. I wanted to have the ceremony on our farm in Connecticut but my family vetoed it so we had our reception in a hotel. We'll be celebrating 41 years in June. If at any point you get stressed take a few deep breaths and remember the best is ahead of you. You're amazing to be making your own dress. Though I was a pretty good sewer back then I'd never have dreamed of even trying so bravo.

I bet you could put silver under the white sparkly fabric and make something for new year’s.

Yes! That's a good idea, I think this fabric would be great for a New Year's dress!

I loved hearing about your upcoming nuptials. How exciting for you 🥰 I never had an engagement either. We knew we wanted to marry, then our nephew got leukaemia. When we knew for sure he wasn’t going to survive we planned our wedding. It was a very stressful time but we made it. Sadly he passed just 6wks later. Australia sounds similar in that there is a legal component to the wedding, words that must be said as is to make it official. So our nephew acted as ‘best man’ and one of our 2 witnesses. On the day he was really unwell and couldn’t get his shoes on. Of all the things in the world to worry about, we didn’t care that he was in socks and things (flip flops). I made bobbin lace to edge my veil, we had no tables or seated dinner, no speeches, no ‘first dance’ etc. it was very casual and while food was provided we all mingled and moved about and just had some music playing softly so people could interact. We had a great time! All that mattered was that I was marrying my husband. The rest was nice but not as important. Your wedding sounds a little relaxed too and I hope it goes well for you. Our guests loved it. Congratulations to you and your husband to be and I hope your day(s) run smoothly x

Thank you for your message and what a beautiful wedding. My sincere condolences for the passing of your nephew. I'm glad that you were able to share that experience with him and that you had a good time.

The kimono must have made a gorgeous robe! (Since seeing this after your wedding). The sparkly fabric could be used for any party with color lining! Oh, and the Kai scissors will be fine working on the tulle. Modern steel alloys used are much tougher than older blades that would dull quite easily! Now to find your wedding pics!

Thank you, it was! The morning of the wedding was chilly and it kept me nice and warm 😊 I'm glad to hear that I likely didn't damage my dear Kai scissors - I love them so much!

It's always nice to incorporate the family traditions. In Australia we don't have the need to go to the town hall to get married, so when I got married in 2001, I had a church wedding and during the ceremony we light candles and then together we lit a unity candle to signify our union. I love the idea of a 3 day celebration although wouldn't that heighten the potential wedding stress levels? We had a groom's cake and a wedding cake and my late mother in law made them aswell as all the flowers. It's nice to bring in family and friends on the organising. It helps them to feel important and they do whatever their duty is with pride. I hear that in other European countries they also have a civil ceremony at the town hall. I wish you a magical and very beautiful wedding day. I think both you and your husband to be will be happy you got married. It's special and sacred no matter how long you've been together prior to the fact.

How special to have those cakes and flower decorations made by your mother in law! I love that you were able to gather your family and friends together, that's the most important aspect of a wedding for me! And thank you for your well wishes 😊

…and my bridesmaids wore black, strapless linen dresses from JCrew. We added a fuschia ribbon at the waist. Definitely something they wore many times afterward.

Best of luck with all the last minute details! I hope everything goes smoothly and that you have a wonderful experience over the multiple days of your wedding celebrations. Thank you for sharing details with us during this lead up - it can't have been easy to add yet another thing to your to-do list! It is appreciated. I'm looking forward to hearing all about your dress after the wedding festivities are over. Your Town Hall wedding fabric is stunning and I'm sure you'll find another use for it. Maybe you can pop over to the UK in September for the Dressmakers Ball in Leicester - that would be an excellent excuse to make something exquisite when you have a more bit time. 😄

Thank you so much for your comment! It was indeed a bit stressful adding this video to my to-do list, but comments like these and being able to share the process make it totally worth it! 🥰❤️ The Leicester Dressmakers Ball would be the perfect occasion, I hadn't even thought of it! The perfect excuse to go all out and I bet no one would find it strange 🤣 I've never been to a dressmakers event before and am very tempted 😊

@@Sarah_Naomi Definitely consider the ball! One attendee last year made a dress that easily could have been a wedding gown. It's carte blanche to wear whatever you like.

I have really enjoyed following your journey of making your wedding dress, Sarah and I can't wait to see it! I was in Normandy for my friend's 3 day wedding in July last year. Hi Sarah, Very exciting about your upcoming nuptials. I also made my wedding dress 30 years ago….. it’s a learning experience that demands a lot of compromises. I LOVE the fabric for your other dress. Could you not find a local seamstress to make the dress for you? An added expense, but it would be a waste to not use such a beautiful fabric. Just a thought! Best of luck with your wedding dress. I’m sure it will be beautiful….as will you.

Yes, I'm certainly making many compromises and I'm glad I'm not the only one! Unfortunately, it's too late to have the town hall dress made by someone else, but I'm sure I'l find a use for it in the future!

Im engaged to a French men and I wanted to know if we wanted to move to the U.S where do we need to get married? France? U.S?
@Sarah_Naomi
@Sarah_Naomi 5 ай бұрын
Congratulations on your engagement! We have no plans to move to the US, so I don't know for sure. But from what I've heard here and there is that in terms of applying for a green card so that your husband can follow you if you move to the US, getting married in the US or in France is the same, both are valid and recognized by both countries.
