Realistically, I'm not very good at garment making or alterations. My joy comes from working on and using vintage machines, but I love these "how-to" videos. I have 23 machines right now dating from 1864 to the 1950's, all look and work perfectly. I do enjoy making quilts and occasionally making or altering things for my daughter, and your channel makes this possible. Thank you so much!

Thank you! Your tutorials are so easy to follow. As a beginner, I love the close ups and details you show. I have been trying to sew a neckline and arm holes on a knit tank. But my fabric is getting stuck under the plate. A great tutorial for knit fabric would be amazing.

You are so welcome! You might went to try changing your needle to a ball point if you have not yet or maybe just a different thickness of needle. Like a smaller number.
@nar2nar217 ай бұрын
You could also try putting a piece of paper between the feed dog (the little teeth in the base plate) and your fabric, then rip it off when done. It prevents tour fabric from being sucked into the machine. This is in addition to what Anastasia has suggested. The right needle is also very important. Hope that helps!💖💖💖

Ok. This is SLICK!! I never could figure out how to do the facing with the point at the bottom! So simple!

That’s a great new technique for me! Thank you Anastasia. Would you be able to show how to turn a turtle/polo neck sweater into a v neck, or a crew neck, using the cut off fabric of the turtle/polo neck? I have a beautiful lambswool sweater but just don’t like the turtle neck on it and the sweater is too beautiful to add any other type of fabric to make a new neckline. Thank you so much!

This is something I've wanted to know for many years and I'm delighted to find such a clear explanation. This video has been saved to my sewing files and I will certainly be referring to it again.

This is so weird. Every time I look up a sewing skill you always come through with a video next day. Like this whole week I look up videos on how to finish a neckline and here we are🤯

This is beautiful! I would also love to see a t-shirt with sleeves made into a tank top. I have many that are a size too tight. Maybe use the sleeves (short ones) to add extra room. Or other fabric.

Thank you! I’ve been avoiding trying a v neck because I wanted the bias tape on the inside. Saw this just in time to recut the neckline of the dress I’m about to finish.

I just made Butterick B6318, a vintage style with (I think?) a boatneck. The pattern includes facings, which I don't love from a sensory perspective. I couldn't figure out how to bias face it, as it basically comes to a V at each side. Next time I sew it up, I'm going to use this technique, thanks!!

Hi Anastasia. I like all your videos and am trying to make myself and puppy matching pj's too (just gotta save for the fabric 😂). I have a question.... I hear a lot about how important it is to have a half scale dress form but haven't seen you use one. Is it really necessary to have one?
@SewAnastasia7 ай бұрын
Hi, I would get a full size dress form. I have about 10 half scales ones that we use in pattern drafting and draping class to test out designs and such but yu really want one that is your size.
@SewAndTellwithDori7 ай бұрын
Thank you, Anastasia! Do you use this same method when sewing in a V-neckline into a knit fabric t-shirt? I would assume that bias tape isn't needed on knits.
@SewAnastasia7 ай бұрын
You can totally do this on a knit. As long as the hole will fit over your head and you do not need to stretch it to put it on. Once you sew the bias facing on it there will be no more stretch in the neck.
@nar2nar217 ай бұрын
I never that about that! This would be an excellent way to stabilize a knit fabric that has a bit of weight to it in the should / wide neck without clear elastic.

Q. If you make a jersey v neck tee, can you do this same process on the neckline with bias made from jersey?
@SewAnastasia7 ай бұрын
Yes you can or you can use woven bias tape on it as long as it fits over your head.

What if you were sewing up a knit fabric neckline? Would it work the same? I feel like no, cause of stretch! I haven’t been able to get a knit v-neck perfect yet! 🤦🏼♀️😵💫
@SewAnastasia7 ай бұрын
If the V hole is big enough for your head you can use woven bias binding on it. It gives it more structure. You might want to create a v binding for it though. That’s what’s in most t shirts
@samanthaowen70807 ай бұрын
@@SewAnastasia thanks so much for the feedback. I’ll have to give that a try! 💁🏼♀️
