Hi Suzanne, I want to thank you so very much for your step by step video showing your making of a Chanel style jacket. Following this carefully I managed to make a beautiful cropped white and silver bridal Chanel style jacket for my daughter Emily. She gets married on Thursday and Friday of this week in London and I'm feeling pretty proud of my creation. This is all down to you. I can't thank you enough Linda x

I have wanted a jacket like this for a very long time. Then, I wanted to make my own, because I can't buy one. I have looked at too many videos and read many articles about making this jacket. This video is the best I've seen by far because you broke down those very difficult parts of making the jacket and made them comprehensible and doable. Thanks very much for sharing your sewing talents.

Many years ago I made a suit for HS graduation and it was also a boucle fabric but a solid color. You refreshed my memory about the hand zigzagging on the canvas interfacing, etc. Actually, my girlfriend showed me those tailoring techniques. It turned out nice and I kept the suit from over 50 yrs ago..just for a souvenir. I did not do the quilting, however. Yours is a lovely look.

I’m in the process of constructing this style jacket. Your tips are so helpful. Other people have stayed strictly with some of the Chanel techniques of couture. I prefer my own touch with my jacket, planning to add hooks for closure as well. I love the button loop idea. Have a second piece of lovely wool for another jacket and plan to use your button loop idea for my front closure. I love personalized items, I won’t see anyone walking toward me in the exact same garment!

Hi Susanne, This is a wonderful KZbin tutorial. I inherited 40-year-old fabric from my elderly aunty that she was going to turn into a rolled collar loose-fitting jacket. After deliberating over what to do with a bold checked woollen fabric, and after consultation with friends, I settled on making a Chanel style jacket. I replaced her nondescript buff-coloured lining with a vibrant navy blue and it has modernised the concept. Since the checks demanded matching I looked up videos on how to do this with success. Your detailed video on how to achieve this was brilliant. I used the tips you gave and added the chain and beaded the trim as you demonstrated. I made a toile first and then had a friend comment on the fit. There was no quilting in this one but all your tips and techniques were invaluable. Had a little 'whoopsie' re. matching of checks of the jacket body and sleeve but luckily had plenty of fabric to recut these. It was a major project as I do not do a lot of sewing now but do enjoy the result one gets through having an individual item. I pieced it while off work with a bad cough/cold etc that eliminated doing my usual work. The beads were hard to get and I used three rather than four as I couldn't get a fourth one that coordinated. I finished it this morning and it is ABSOLUTELY stunning, looks funky and the ochre colour base is even 'in' at present. I'm delighted that my Aunty has been able to see something wearable has come from her fabric. Thank you very much for all the work you have done and for sharing your tips and tricks.

Sew Custom : Hi, it’s me again, I’m wondering why you used thread tacks to mark the notches? I understand the pins would fall out, but why not clip the notches? Is it because of the type of fabric it is and you wouldn’t be able to see the clipped notches easily? If that the reason then if you used a fabric that doesn’t ravel so much, would you clip the notches or would you thread tack it still? Last but not least is there a book that you’d recommend that helped you with this project or with your sewing education in general? Thank you for being patient with all of my questions. I hope to hear from you soon, with much respect, Cindy
@SewCustom5 жыл бұрын
Hi Cindy, I didn’t clip the notches for the two reasons you mention, 1. This fabric frays likes crazy and 2. If clipped they are very difficult to find in this type of fabric. I’ve made another jacket this/last month with similar fabric but much more tightly woven where I clipped the notches which worked well👍👍👍 I always “clip” if I can get away with it👍👍👍 I popped a link to a few really fabulous blog posts in the description box of this video, I used bits of each one to help me out with the different elements of this project, they’re all definitely worth a read👍👍👍 I did a video last year where I recommended 5 different resources that I have used to help me learn this sewing business kzbin.info/www/bejne/rp-qqKuMr9aqgMU 👍👍👍 no problem at all on the questions, I love a good chat about sewing👌👌👌 have a fab weekend Cindy💕💕💕

Great job!! I love hand stitching. I also love using the shelved right edges for trims. Chanel is my favorite design house. Actually I am devotee for most design houses. Givenchy, de la Renta, Dior, Chanel, too many to mention. I adore quality fabrics and stitchers. Hand work of many kinds is an art that should never be lost. The seamstresses are the backbone of any of the houses. Their hand work is what gives character, beauty and the best of quality to all designers create. I am in awe.
