Thank you, so much. I ran aground in an otherwise easy pattern because I couldn't understand the flips in lining attachment, I needed to see it. And in your soothing, helpful video, it all made sense. What a beautiful brocade fabric you chose, and bright lining.

Beautifully constructed! Gorgeous jacket! I’m so happy I’m not the only one who uses many pins for difficult areas. I see/hear many sewists stating, “only need a few pins.” I’d rather use too many, rather than too few and have to rip and fix. Thanks so much for your videos. I look forward to them, every week.

Brilliant tutorial. I love this type of Vlog. Your attention to detail, voiceover explaining the steps you are taking and why is smashing 😀! I know that's why folks like me cannot wait for their Friday morning fix 😁. I hope you let Diane, your own personal source, along with thousands of us who hear you commend her, who if they've not already subscribed, dash over, watch and do. Of course the excellent Books are invaluable too. Your right to be thrilled with your jacket Suzanne, it's absolutely gorgeous 👍👌perfect. Fabric choice is spot on. I have to say, I've worn tweed jackets with jeans, which is perfect as smart/casual wear. Like you, I just love it and if my existing tweeds from way back are a trifle neat 🙄, I wouldn't hesitate to copy yours (not going to your neck of the woods for fabric though 😁😆😉

Great tutorial, Suzanne, and your jacket is adorable! The only part I didn't quite understand is your treatment of the hems to keep the lining from peeking out. Do you fold up the hem allowance and sew along that line?
@SewCustom5 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much new2sewing💕💕💕 to keep the hem from dropping and the lining from peeking out I fold the hem up by its allowance and then at the bottom of side seam pop my fingers inside the hem and grab the seam allowance from the hem and the side seam together and run a couple of tacking stitches back and forth but just on the seam allowance. The stitches are running vertically 👍👍👍its a fab tip👌 I watched a good few videos before it clicked with me😉 I'll try to show it again in another video🤔 I hope this helps💕💕💕

Lovedthe video Susanne, did you have to add ease in the lining hem? When I worked at the bank had to dress professionally and wear jackets. I haven't worn a jacket or skirt in such a while since having to retire earlier than expected. Can't wait for your next jacket video. You may be inspiring me to make one. I do have a pattern for a jean jacket which I always wanted, but I don't think it would be as great in detail as a storebought one, but maybe, just maybe (LOL).
@SewCustom5 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you enjoyed Melinda💕💕💕I learned this month that the little pleat at the hem allows for some movement without stretching the lining 👍 I didn't cut any extra fabric for this , I just cut the same length as the outer 👍 I love these types of jackets even paired with jeans💕💕💕 so iw Ould say definitely give it go👍 I'm sure your handmade jean jacket would be way better than a shop bought 👌👌👌 Have a fabulous week Melinda💕💕💕

Hi Suzanne, i made a sleeveless top , v-Front . I tried the method of cutting a v into the back till almost at the bottom of the back and overlapping the excess, but now it’s a bit too tight around the chest.... how do you approach a gaping neck at the back. I bought the Palmer Pletch book on adjusting a pattern but this is one solution I did not find. Can you guide me to the right books or solution.. I did not find a KZbin solution either.. except for adding shoulder darts which I don’t want... thanks in advance. 😉🍀
@SewCustom5 жыл бұрын
Hi, you're the second person that's asked that very question, unfortunately I haven't come across this problem myself and don't know of any books that give a solution to this specific problem..... I have used a method to reduce gape at the front neckline on various patterns and I am assuming you could use the same method at the back. The method is laid out in the book "Pattern Cutting Made Easy" by Gillan Holman. I hope this helps🍀

Great video and was amazed to see we are doing the same March project! So far I've done my toile and will check the fit on the person I'm making it for. I have a question: are you planning on doing a version quilting the lining? That's my plan and from what I've researched I plan to quilt line each piece and then join together by hand.
@SewCustom5 жыл бұрын
Great minds eh Cathy😍 I've just uploaded to my Instagram stories @sewcustom_ my toile journey including the quilting👍 I quilted each piece, then sewed the outer on the machine and hand stitched the lining👍👍👍 I'm loving working on this project, I hope you're the same and good luck finishing your toile🍀🍀🍀
@CathyEllisTVET5 жыл бұрын
@@SewCustom That's my plan (quilting, then sewing each piece etc) - I've done some initial quilting and hand sewing of seams and like the process. My pattern has 8 panels and 2 x 2 piece seams. PS Can't see your toile journey on instagram. Am I looking in the wrong place?

Oh my goodness, 8 panels and the sleeves 😲 you have a lot more hand sewing than I had on my toile..... although I did find it to be quite a relaxing process. I made sure the fire was lit, the TV was on in the background and I got nice and comfy on the sofa and hand stitched away😍😍😍

Thank you , very clear. And informative. Did the fabric fray much at all? If it did would you overlock ? Would that make it too bulky?
@SewCustom5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback Janice, it's greatly appreciated💕👍💕 I overlocked the edges of the outer fabric, it did fray a good bit, the lining not so much. If fraying was an issue I would overlock both, I've done this with winter coats where I have a bit more ease and bulk isn't an issue but not with a more closer fitting jacket like this one. I've read recently that a 3 thread overlocked edge helps reduce bulk at the seams, haven't tried it myself as yet🤔
