Helpful, but I wish you had shown what each stitch looked like before stitching it. My machine has lots of stitches, but just a picture No Name or the applicable use for that stitch. It is driving me nuts. You do very good presentations., and your voice so clear and understandable.

Great video. Love triple zig zag for undies. Another game changer for hems is Heat and Bond soft stretch. Iron on to fuse hem in place. Then stitch of your choice as top stitch. Thanks for showing this.

That's a great tip too! I've used it a few times. It's especially helpful preventing rib knits from stretching like crazy.

This was a very helpful video. I'd like to try making a stretch garment with only my sewing machine. Usually I put them under the serger and I'm done. But I have a Janome Horizon 5 with all those stitches you mentioned. I only have the symbols though. Maybe I haven't looked them up properly in the manual. I also have the walking foot and also was advised to only straight stitch with it. But now I'm going to try this! What would you advise sewing a fraying lightweight knit on? This ff-ing fabric has been holding me back from sewing what should become a really pretty cardigan. I'm afraid I will end up with something so stretched my hubby could wear it. Help!

Hi Reinhilde! The manual should give you the names of the stitches. That's where I found it for mine. I'd do some tests with the fabric to try out different stitches and see what works best. A simple zig zag may work well for the seams. Oftentimes, a gentle press with steam will return fabric to its original state. Sewing on the tissue paper might help (you could use a layer on top and one on bottom). You can also try using wash away stabilizer. I've found it particularly helpful with super stretchy rib knits. Look for HeatnBond Soft Stretch. I hope that helps. Good luck!

I hemmed a knit blouse w/o knit stitching and it caused major waving. Is there any way to fix this? If I take it out will it continue to be wavy? I tried steaming which helped some but not enough

Hi Sharon, It depends on the fabric and unfortunately, it sounds like your fabric does not have good recovery and won't go back to its original state. Steaming would be my first approach too. If you have fabric leftover, you can cut off the current hem and replace it with a band of fabric (like you'd see at the bottom of sweatshirt).

You can try elastic thread on the bobbin to gather it back up, but it might cinch it more than you like

Is it just my connection or was the sound way out of sync? For me audio was waaay behind the video portion so it was confusing. Not sure why.

What is that black strip waving on the left? Is it a cattail or fabric ? It’s distracting from your good video.

Just watch this, I have to say that the cat’s tail flip-flopping back-and-forth is very distracting.
