I liked seeing both, but prefer Hayley's as there would be fewer joins. And it's quick and simple!

I've tried both methods. The continuous method seems better when creating longer amount of tape. You both explained the methods better than I've seen before. So I learned why I had issues in the past! 😊 Thanks for the challenge...it's a tie!

Vote for Sarai since there are not much/ no fabric leftovers! (Although I must admit, that most of the time I do it Haley‘s way, because I won’t have to learn the technique)

Maybe, if you want bias tape with a minimal amount of seams, then the classic rule and cut fabric would be better? It is also a bit bulkier along the seams, too. I guess it depends on what you use the bias tape for.

Personally I use Haley’s method but Sarai’s method does look like a fun magic trick to try! That folding/stitching will require more thinking on my part so I can see how different ways would appeal to different brains!! I’m always a linear, logical thinker and am curious to see if more free-thinking artists like the continuous method. I learned to sew 60 years ago and still do some things the way I learned. Anyway I love your playful challenges!! -Addie

I use both. Cutting separate strips is best when I need only a small amount of bias tape, or where I want to be very particular where the tape seams end up. This would be for exposed tape at a neckline, for example. If I need a lot of tape and seam placement doesn't matter, the continuous method is faster and wastes less fabric. Binding exposed seam allowances inside a jacket would be a place I'd use this.

Wow, now I know what I've been doing wrong with making bias tape. I've been neglecting to square off the ends (how did I not know I was supposed to do that?!). That meant I had a wonky little ear of fabric poking out of the seam every single time! Thanks, Seamwork, for this SEWdown!

I use Haleys method moat of the time because I cn mke as much bias tape as I need. But I do not chop of the edges of the strips before sewing them together. Tey are already at a 45 degree angel, so why chop them of and than sew the at that angle again?
@SeamworkVideo
@SeamworkVideo Жыл бұрын
People often find it is easier to align the two pieces and accurately sew them at an angle when they are first squared off. But if your method works well for you, keep doing it! The beauty of sewing is that there are so many ways to achieve the same end.

Thanks for another GREAT showdown! 🤣I've done both methods and for me, it kind of depends on how much binding I need. Haleys for less binding, and Sarai's for more binding. I always *wish* I have more for leftover for another later project or having around a supply of bias tape. I would like to make a project day to cut out some binding to store it. How do you store/roll up your *extra binding*? PS I love watching your out takes as well...thanks for including them also! Nice to see the fun you are having together ♥

These videos are too funny! I use Haley's method but I think it's out of habit as I also quilt, and I do my binding the same way (except on the grain). HOWEVER, I like Sarai's method better, it makes more sense to my brain (I chain piece and I ALWAYS sew at least a few strips together in the wrong direction- and I have done this for decades!) I also like that S's way is a more efficient use of fabric. The only downside to S's method is I feel like there are more seams per comparable length. *Haley, loved the tip about finding the diagonal line through the inch markers for rulers that don't have it marked. mind blown.

I cut out a parallelogram shape on the bias, rather than cutting and sewing the square - you can have good seamless runs of bias that way
