Great video! So easy to follow. At first I thought it looked complicated, but it wasn’t at all. I used this method to complete my knit cardigan today and it looks fantastic. Thank you so much!

Great tutorial Can a shank button be attached with a backing button? I’m working on a fine weight lace cardigan and so think a backing button would be wise. I bought shank buttons, but now wonder if that is possible. Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Using a backing button is a great technique to stabilize buttons on knitwear and in combination with a shank button, shouldn't cause you any issues! Thanks for writing!

The buttons are so tiny that it's hard to see what you're doing, and with all that knotting (and starting the needle from front to back) it looks like the most unnecessarily complicated way to sew on a button, especially for beginners. There are simpler ways to sew on a button. :-)

Hello! This method of sewing on a button is meant for knitwear in particular, so there are certain steps that are specifically intended to work well on this sort of fabric, and are not necessary when applying buttons to other types of fabric. While our method is helpful for many people, you are welcome to use whichever method you find the most useful for your own projects!
