Whenever I make a muslin instead of throwing it out, I decorate it with either ribbon trims, or hand embroidery. They end up looking very high end and it's more of a free dress than a throw away dress!

That’s actually a wonderful idea! If I can’t rewear a muslin I’ll try and use the fabric for something else

Thank you so so much! It took me several years to feel comfortable in a fitted dress, but I’m having so much fun and it’s a great way to use up small cuts of fabric. Thanks for being here Welcome 💕

I just noticed, for the first time, why your sewing machine looks so familiar, my father owned that same model and the same cabinet, but in a different finish! I remember thinking, back then, that the cams, which are changed out for different stitch designs, and the sliding buttonhole attachment, was so cool, and how very far sewing machines had come. For that time, it was certainly innovative, but in our present day of computers and internet, it is quite archaic, but old machines have a charm and history that is almost palpable. I feel the same way you do about so called "waste" materials, too, and learning really should be done in the best way that works for you on as many levels that is possible, or, at least, reasonable. You do lovely work, and I can tell how very much you love it! I so very much enjoy your videos!

Her Kenmore is practically indestructible. Unlike my 2000s computerized Kenmore machine, which recently went on its last trip - to the dump. Completely unfixable, and was horribly expensive. I wish I had one of hers. I’m on the lookout…
@ThundermansThunder
@ThundermansThunder Жыл бұрын
@@daxxydog5777 Yes, Those old Kenmore machines just keep on going, because they were built to last, unlike the the mostly plastic mechanisms used in machines, today. Most of the household appliances available, today, seem to begin to self-destruct just a couple of years after they are purchased. It is so hard to find things that are well made, and people who take pride in a job well done. No wonder we all long for the past! If only we could meld the stability and reliability of the past with the technology of the present!

I wish I knew about you before, I got lots of vintage fabric and wallpapers from an old 91 year old lady . I kept until I ended up dropping them in a drop bin. Wow I would have certainly gifted them to you. You are fantastic!!!❤!! Can start your own vintage line of fashion? That’s just my thought I truly feel you would be supported

Even if you go on to make this again as part of a "practice makes perfect" plan, I'd so love to see you learning how to go back and fix the first dress . Like you said, you don't like waste, so it'd be good to show your viewers how to salvage garments from mistakes, and it would save the garments.

You are inspiring me to learn how to use my vintage Merritt Singer sewing machine that I found at a thrift store last year. The one from my chidhood was a boring white, and this one is PINK! I look at it every day, but I haven’t tried it yet. I don’t want to break it, and I have no idea what I’m doing.❤

Love this! Nothing wrong with being economical with muslin. I use "scrap" and mockup muslin all the time for linings and facings. If it's completely unusable, it becomes stuffing for pillows and plushies! Waste not want not!

Beautiful results! I think many of us feel similarly about wanting a muslin to be totally wearable after all the work of making it. It's encouraging to hear your sewing challenges, anyone who sews regularly has been through this, but it's still reassuring to hear similar stories by accomplished sewers like yourself. Thank you!

Did you ever watch the tv show Girlfriends? If so, Joan says to her trainer, "Your too young to know that I'm too old to find new friends." I love that quote because it is very true. But I think it is easier for people with children because you have play dates, sports, etc. which gives you opportunities to meet other moms.

I’m so paranoid about fitting patterns now that I always make a muslin first. Once my hormones changed, my body changed so much, and fit became so much more of an issue. I buy JoAnn’s cheapest muslin when it’s on sale or I have a coupon, 10 to 15 yards at a time, and roll it onto a bolt to store. I hate throwing it out afterward, but I don’t have a ton of storage space, and my stash of good fabric and yarn takes up most of it. You’re inspiring me to start working on some projects I’ve had set aside!

I ordered 10 yards from Amazon once but I used it up pretty quickly 😅 I think since I work with the same styles often the less I need muslins but they are necessary sometimes.

next time you make that dress, think about making the fitted waist band wider, your bust sits high on your chest, and the gathers for the bust are too low on the dress, way to low, if the waist insert thing, (don't know what it's called) was wider the gathers would be just under your bust, if you have more fabric I wished you would consider making another waist band to see what I mean, or a mock up to fit the dress better, that style looks great on you, but the bust gathers look distorted because they are so low on your petite form...said with love, no negativity intended...

I think because it’s so thin, and organza can be a substitute for interfacing. I’m Sure you can use the main fabric as a substitute I was just following her directions and happened to have some organza on hand.
