I wanted to challenge me a bit with using a fabric I normally would never use: Silk organza!
And we're going to make a jacket out of it. The jacket is based on my Lucy jacket pattern from my collection which you are asking about for so long!
PATTERN:

If you're new here, I'd recommend the BASICS - SEWING SCHOOL playlist, you will find all the episodes of my classes there:

This looks amazing 😍 i want one right one but I’m scared that I’m not used to sewing enough to be able to do this jacket (would really appreciate a tutorial on collars for blouses etc 🥰) Always love your work, it’s so stunning ♥️ (PS : I asked you advices for the corset belt and sewed it a few weeks ago, it fits perfectly ! Thank you so much 🥰)

Thank you 🥰 I included a written instructions pdf in the pattern download - you should be able to make the jacket with it. And of course, I am always here to answer any questions you might have 🥰 it's up to you but I would take the challenge 🤙🏻 I'm really glad the corset belt fits you well! 💪🏻💪🏻

Good grief I made a number of organza jackets about 20 years ago. It’s amazing how fashion comes back in cycles ( also with french seams )

Oh yes everything comes back again, just in a slight different variety! 🥰 but that's how the design process works - you always get your inspiration from somewhere, mostly from some previous fashion collections 💪🏻

Such a beautiful jacket! I was so inspired I went off to etsy and promptly ordered 4 yds of pink/peach organza! I love this idea for a light coverup for summer - airy, light, sun protection and SO pretty! Thank you so much for this instructional video. I'm saving it in my favourite sewing video file for sure :)

My sewing was really bad few months ago but improved a lot through watching your videos. and how do you sew through the pin?? I broke 3 needles trying this
@THISISKACHI
@THISISKACHI 3 жыл бұрын
That makes me so happy! I am not actually sewing on the pins, the needle always goes over them and as I am working on a heavy duty industrial machine that can handle pins in the work, I am fine. For normal machines, I do suggest to take them out before you sew. 🥰

Really love how the jacket turns out all of your designs are beautiful and adorable! Been binge watching your content this couple of days! I am just learning to sew and I am learning a lot from your videos! it might be helpful if you can narate which part of the jacket that you are currently sewing, for example the shoulder seam first, then the side seam, or something like that. It will be really helpful as we can learn how we can decide which order should be sewn first? cause different material requires different order right? 😂 Especially with this organza material :D if it’s not too much trouble though! I am already loving your content, keep it coming, i’ll be watching every single one of them 💕

Quick question, did you add buttonholes before adding the facing in the front or after, and which type did you use, bound, machine, or hand sewn?

Your consideration of the garments seam finishing was on point! Consideration: If you/your clients plan to have the jacket cleaned, the interlining choice may need to be reconsidered. Sinamay can be a high quality woven with a good stiffener. However the glue used on the abaca fibers (manila hemp) allow it to be easily molded, reshaped, curled or twisted when steam, water or other damping products gets near it, making it perfect for millinery purposes. However sinamay incorporated into a beautiful silk garament could behave differently.
@THISISKACHI
@THISISKACHI 3 жыл бұрын
Good to know!! Thanks so much 🥰 I will try out the material I used if it behaves like sinamay (I don't know exactly if it actually is sinamay or just a tulle like netting) and see if it molds/shrinks/changes shape with heat. Thank you 🥰
@PsychicKathleen
@PsychicKathleen 3 жыл бұрын
What would you recommend? Using more of the organza? I was wondering this too - it's nice to use the same colour in the interlining. I think that added a nice touch to keep the colour darker but consistent with the fashion fabric.

this looks so cool! i want to make it over spring break but your size chart is a bit confusing, are the numbers in the bottom chart in inch’s?
@THISISKACHI
@THISISKACHI 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm sorry if the inches are confusing, they confuse me myself as I am using metrics. The jacket is very oversized - I am wearing a size S, maybe that helps as orientation. The only measurement that needs to fit is the waist, all others are oversized.
