Your black dress is stunning on you! I almost didn't watch this, because I usually avoid cowl necks. But, you're right! It's very flattering and not bulky. I can't wait to see new chiffon dusters paired with this dress. I haven't made anything on the bias, but when I do, I'll come back to this vlog for tips. I'm glad you broke your 2 m fabric buying rule for the black dress, because it's a stunner!

I love these dresses on you. What about wearing the striped one over pants for a dress-tunic look. I looked online at images and found several examples of this. The black looks absolutely stunning on you. This silhouette is so awesome on you. You look so good in it!

Thank you so much 😊. I can’t seem to rock the pants and tunic look so far, even though I’ve tried. I have an idea to sew a little slip with part of the left over fabric at the bottom like a flounce and it’ll be like a later underneath for more length
@susanstewart1402
@susanstewart1402 11 ай бұрын
The dress is beautiful and, if you are unhappy with it being short, an alternative would be to cut it off as a top and then use the extra fabric to finish the bottom edge as a hip band with sash tie ends. It would suit the cowl neckline very well. I am thinking of making a bias cowl neck dress so thank you for your video.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles

The dress was made into a top a long time ago, after I made this video. I kept it simple and just hemmed it shorter without other details.

They both look lovely on you I really love the black one . I usually stay away from bias cut I find they cling to my hips but they look good on you. I do make that neckline but usually on tops or waist dress.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
I’m sure I’ll be using this pattern for tops, less fabric 😀. I think the ease for the hips is right here and it doesn’t cling.

I remember making a bias cut skirt from a Vogue designer pattern years and years ago. There was 1-1/2 inches extra seam allowance on the sides. The instructions said to hang for 72 hours and then pin the side seams to where you wanted the fullness to be. It was really surprising how narrow it got. Every fabric will be a bit different so, basicaly, you are making a prototype every time you use the same pattern.

Beautiful dresses Karena. Could you use stay tape on all sides instead of stitching to stop the stretch please.
@LiftingPinsandNeedles
@LiftingPinsandNeedles 3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t fuse stay tape to delicate fabrics. It would make them totally stiff and especially on the side seams, the dress wouldn’t flow well. I would fuse on shoulders, but that’s about it. Stay stitching accomplishes the goal without compromising the drape of the fabric.

Hi! I always get a smile while watching you! Did you ever make the thin strap version with wider straps and a higher arm hole opening? Do you think it is possible to do a sway back adjustment on this type of pattern? I also have pooling in the back for almost everything I make and I find the traditional sway back adjustment helps. But would it work with a bias cut pattern? I think you mentioned darts?

This neckline is not low at all. I actually find it high. Have a good look at how it fits me. I would have commented if I found it low because I’m super modest with my necklines. When I bend forward, there’s no issues at all.

@LiftingPinsandNeedles

The bias of wovens allows the fabric to stretch and mould to the shape of the body usually looking super flowy without needing the volume of fabric required in straight cut styles like this. It just always looks great 👍🏼
