Seems as if everyone has a different, some very, some slightly, method of application. This is wonderful to me, because with anything when learning, we get to choose which method is easier for us and will give us the final result we’re happy with.

Thank you so much for saying about stitching by hand...I don't have a invisible zipper foot and couldnt afford to get another...other videos and tutorials dont say you can do this..and although it seems like common sense I never realised you could!! Looking forward to trying my first invisible zip now.

Awesome tutorial. Thanks a million. Have you ever used a regular zipper and inserted as invisible. I thought years ago I heard you could and I'm going to try it on a scrap of fabric. Just wanted to let you know that I have been sewing for over 50 years and this was the best tutorial on invisible zipper because I like the idea of sewing the rest of the seam first I never like having to wait until the zipper is in to sew the bottom of the dress. Thanks again.

I don’t know if I am being cheeky but I think I have the same model of Piaf sewing machine the quilt ambition 2.0. I notice you move your needle position when doing the zips can you let me know how as I have looked all through the instruction manual and it does not state how to in there. ??? Your help would be much appreciated. Your tutorials are really helpful and inspiring.

I know this one is about zips but the dress is so adorable. I'm in the states can you please share where you purchase your fabrics from? Thank you so much!
@MarinaBrumpton8 жыл бұрын
It's the Vivienne pattern for the dress. I buy my fabrics mainly from the fashion district in Los Angeles, Michael Levine (also online) and of course Jo Anne's. For kiddos I use the online platform Fabricworm which sell Birch organic fabrics. If possible I link to shops on the website. Mind the website is going down in its present form and will come back, all singing and dancing in about three weeks.

I have always seen the invisible zip videos where they show them closing the centre back after inserting the zip, but I think thats more difficult to do......Its much easier closing the centre back first.....
@MarinaBrumpton8 жыл бұрын
+Anne North Hi Anne. Actually both works well. It depends, I do both. For example when you are pleating a skirt and attaching it, it may be easier to close after. I do know in industry with those great machines, tiny presser feet and total control grip on the fabric, it may even be more appropriate but with standard sewing machines, not always with great transport, its more difficult I think. But then hey there are more ways to Rome than one right?
@TheNinawitteveen3 жыл бұрын
Hell Marina, once again you have made something I thought was difficult look so easy🙂 Question? My bodice is together already with lining, when sewing the zipper, how far to snip the top zipper tail so I don't need the little eye hooks. Should I snip it so the zipper is directly at the top? Thanks darlin
@MarinaBrumpton3 жыл бұрын
I snip it so its just seam allowance, because I am frankly to lazy for hook and eye closures at the top... :) So 1 cm and it will be perfect.

What causes the bunching up of the fabric/access fabric on the bottom of the zipper sometimes?
@MarinaBrumpton6 жыл бұрын
The zip isn't put in evenly. But you can help yourself and close the seam last. Put the zip in first, then using a zipper foot go in after. I am showing that in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4TZf2OseLFmrZY

Frocks & Frolics Sewing Patterns Thank you for your quick reply. I love your videos. And I've used the Vivienne pattern for my little girl a few times now. So pretty!
@jaquelynashbery855711 ай бұрын
Marina, ref the 1cm seam allowance v the 1.5cm that shop bought patterns recommended, I see that the top of the zip tape is designed to be used with a 1.5cm seam allowance and needs to be shortened if I'm using a 1cm seam allowance. But does this also affect the back seam similarly? Do I need to reduce my seam allowance to 1cm on the side / back seam where the zip is to sit? Or does the zip need 1.5cm to accomodate the tape and teeth? Hope that makes sense.
@MarinaBrumpton11 ай бұрын
That is a good question. You could just move the zip sides in a little more to accommodate the wider seam allowance. But I agree trimming off the 0.5 cm at least in the zip area would probably be easier. At least if you follow this video instruction.
