This has got to be the best binding tutorial I've EVER seen. Wow. LOVE IT!!!. Thank you for this.

I agree! Bias bound edges will definitely sit flat with this method - the trick being to stretch the binding as you sew it on. Thanks for this lesson.

Thank you so much, Im an oldie who hasn't sewn since highschool. Last year my first grandchild was born, and I thought OMG Nana's are supposed to be able to make things lol. I was taught by a local lady how to make a quilt and I was so proud of it my daughter couldnt believe how beautiful it was. I am not a sewer at all though but found after fighting with store bought stiff horrible bias bindings I wanted to throw my new project in the bin. AND THEN.... I FOUND YOU. this excellent tutorial taught me I could make my own binding and wow how much better this is. Thank you for giving 3 great examples and some I will be able to use when sewing for my almost 1 year old Granddaughter. a million thank yous. Chez in Australa xo

You are very welcome. Binding takes practice but does not have to look just awful, which is usually what it does in neckline areas.

@MarinaBrumpton9 жыл бұрын
UtahGmaw99 You are welcome, I hate bias tape too unless its fabulously soft. Best tip, didn't put that in the video but I mainly use white binding. Get a really lightweight white cotton voile. Starch to kingdome come, then cut bias strips. Keep them in your boy and use whenever you need it.

Hallo Marina!

Brilliant clear instructions! I have been sewing for years and always use method 3 but I find when I turn it in and machine it I always get Puckering on the actual garment?? Any suggestion how I can stop this happening?? Thank you for a wonderful video though, very informative.
@MarinaBrumpton5 жыл бұрын
Wendy Nicholss this is quite common even in store bought. The softer the binding the better to avoid it. Also doing it slimmer works. And of course don‘t pull the binding where the grain if what ever you are binding is straight.

Hi, thank you for sharing. I have a quick question. For the third option @16.14 your bias is folded only once, in the middle, correct? different that the option 1 and 2 that it has three folds ?

thank you this was really great! I want to fix some old shirts short sleeve shirts that are fraying on the edges. most are silk or shiny polyester. Was thinking of putting a binding on as a cuff maybe using a satin wide binding. Any thoughts? A few of them have frayed under the arm too, not sure how to mend those, but this is what happens with silk. yet the rest of the shirt is in very good shape, don't want to cut them up just yet, after all they are silk. Any ideas? Thanks

Will it be better in Option 1 that at the very curved edge of the armhole, cut a V notch so the fabric wrapped inside does not bulk up?
