I'm currently working on my 'forever' shirt, but it is nearly finished. Am trying two new to me things---using material that is a navy blue sheet, and, because I don't have a serger yet, most, if not all, the seams are frenched seamed. It's been challenging, but oh so much fun.

As someone who has a signature haircut which makes them look like several famous cartoon character, ie. Edna Mode, Velma, Haku from Spirited Away, and unfortunately Lord Farquad, I've officially been inspired to make some casual versions of their famous fits. I'm not gonna beat the allegations of looking like them, so I might aswell lean into it!

If you ever wanted to create a “puffier” hem, you could always try using some polyester batting for volume. You might even be happy using horsehair braid for a lighter finish. ❤

omg im constantly watching you do more work for urself than u need 🥲. quick tip for keeping a wide heavy cuff up. stitch in the ditch along ur side seams for no more than an inch and for extra support do an invisible stitch again no more than an inch at the center front and centre back of each pant leg! that way it also just looks like its magically floating there. its niiiiice lil edit here: in this case because of the way u top stitched ur seams there isnt really a "ditch" to sew into. so sewing along one of ur stitching lines would also do the trick 👍 omg other edit: i made this comment before u decided to change ur mind lol but its still useful info for the future!
@fromcarlyb2 ай бұрын
hahahahha that's me!!!! what can you do... lol ... this tip is AWESOME THOUGH!!! i'm gonna do it next time for sure! thank you!!

If you want to use a straight stitch on stretch fabric, use Maraflex thread in your needle and bobbin. A twin needle will create a double line of stitches on the top and a zigzag line of stitches underneath and so you can use ordinary thread. It’s great for hems and necklines. You can usually get away with using a straight stitch and an ordinary thread on stretch woven fabrics because they don’t stretch too far.

i had the same thing happen with the neckline of a tshirt, i think the general rule of thumb is to cut between 90% and 75% of the circumference of the neckline, 75% being with a very stretchy fabric and 90% being not super stretchy!

Hi! Great video, I really liked your final results :) I've made some T-shirts too, and I like maths so I often calculate how long my collar needs to be exactly :). First, I measure the circumference of the neckline of the shirt (with seam allowance, so where your final collar sits). Then, I divide my measured circumference by 2*pi (or 6.28) to get the radius of the neckline circle. Thirdly, I decide how wide I want my collar to be. I often choose 1.5 cm. I substract this number from my radius to get a new, smaller radius. Lastly, I calculate the small radius times 2*pi and I get the length of the collar! So for example, I measure my neckline to be 50 cm. Then I divide 50 by 2*pi, which gives me 8.0 cm. I want a collar of 1.5 cm, so 8.0 - 1.5 = 6.5. Then 6.5 * 2 * pi = 41 cm Now your neckline is probably not an exact circle... So I often add 1/2 cm for ease. But overall, this method gives me perfect, flat collars. :D

Depending on the level of stretch in the denim and the stress on the seams, you can treat it like woven. These are a looser fit, so stretching in slightly as you pull it through and doing a flat fell seam will give it the strength and pliability you need. Pants are so good when you draft your own - do it!

Idk if you’ll see this so late, but there is a technique to sew a thick cuff! It’s hard to explain written, but you fold up once, topstitch, then you foldthe cuff from the halfway point a little bit past the topstich line, covering it, then you iron that in place and tack the sides. It gives the illusion of a double rolled hem, but not the full cuff depth and weight.

so cute!!! you've inspired me to try duping my fav uniqlo t-shirt because it doesn't come in many fun colors. also, one great jeans making tip I used recently is to sew the interior of the waistband to the jeans first (as opposed to sewing the exterior of the waistband to the jeans), and then topstitch as usual! I hope that makes sense but basically it makes it so much easier to topstitch because you don't have to worry as much about catching the interior of the waistband perfectly as you sew

I was taught one at my last job but for the life of me couldn’t get it 😅 if you or any of your lovely community know, I’d be so grateful if you’d share! Also, my current WIP (I’m guessing you’ll ask at the end, if not, sorry!!) is I’m knitting some froggy socks out of beautiful wool I got!
