This is my 2nd viewing of this video to catch the Vogue pattern trench coat. Your choices are great. Kachina is the most traditional choice for trench coats.The faux suede jacket and lining are perfect together. Love the blue ruffledshirt. Always see patterns and fabrics in your videos I'd like for me. Thanks Karon

The tiered dress from Know Me is on my list as well. The narrow hens have me hesitating.

One reason for your high success rate is that you have such a clear understanding of your best styles and colors. It's fun to see you hold up a bold black & white print or cobalt blue fabric and see how they come to life against your face. The trench coat idea sounds spot on: a quick way to achieve a polished look no matter what you're wearing underneath. I hesitated over that lining fabric, the brocade which is beautiful in its own right, just in case it adds too much bulk around the midsection or prevents the exterior twill from draping as it should. You'll figure it out. I have a question, because you do an exceptional job executing beautiful, well fitting collars...perhaps you could help? I'm looking for a pattern I could use to make a button up, sleeveless shirt dress. I'd like princess seams and a notched collar (possibly with a partial stand) very much like the McCall's 6172 blazer pattern you've showed before. I could perhaps adapt a jacket or blouse pattern if I can't find a dress pattern. Do you recall using or seeing a great notched collar, princess seam pattern?

I appreciate your feedback and suggestions. Oftentimes, it's trial and error as well as understanding my style. Things change and fashion operates in a cycle. I believe that once I know what works for me, it's easy to adjust to accommodate my needs. I think Butterick 6843 has a sleeveless shirtdress with a notched collar. I am not sure about the princess seam.

I have the same trench coat pattern. I am trying to decide on the lining. I love, love the fabric you sugfor the lining. Think that two-tone grey would Mach an awesome cardigan. The MimiG 8174 fabric and lining his a great match.

Thank you for sharing your sewing plans with us. I am always excited and curious to see what you are making. I have been in a sewing rut for a while until I binged watched your videos. For over a year I have made up a series of sewing patterns that I finally realized weren't my style...I just got caught up in buying sale patterns instead of buying what suited my personal style. When you stated that you get some of your sewing inspiration from Talbot's, I decided to review your video history. Some of my favourite garments were purchased from Talbot's. Your videos inspired me to buy M7601 for view A (which was exactly what I had pictured in my head for workwear but couldn't find a pattern for my vision) and M6436 for view D to see if I could find a shirt pattern that felt like me. I like wearing button up shirts but cannot seem to make one that I like wearing. I am learning from you that getting the right fabric and sewing pattern combo makes all the difference. Now I have to invest in quality fabrics (instead of anything on sale) to get better quality garments as well! One step at a time! LOL! Have a great week! :)

Hello Milly, I am so happy you were able to identify your style and narrow down what works for you. It helps when you can be guided by the information in choosing patterns. I believe we all help each other at some point. I found out earlier when I began sewing that the fabric makes a difference in the outcome of your garment. You don't have to buy expensive fabric but the quality matters. I hope you will make a button-up you love and will wear. Enjoy the process and have fun sewing. I truly appreciate your time watching and also sharing your feedback. Thank you!!

Thank you Karon! You are right about the fabric choice. This time around I am going to try sewing a button-up shirt in a rayon/linen blend instead of my usual corduroy or cotton poplin. I was sewing button-up shirts for below minus 40 weather but the garments just looked too stiff for my liking (although they were very warm to wear). So going forward I will just make lighter weight garments and layer them for warmth. I have been living in places with long and cold fall/winter seasons and thus focused on function over fashion. Eventually I will find a balance between being a "fashion victim" and toasty warm! After all, I am not a polar bear! LOL! @@cookeka

Hi karon, I used to sew a lot with linen. I haven’t sewn anything in linen for a long time. Where do you like to buy yours? We only have Joann here and I think they are really over priced. Is mood a good source?
@cookeka
@cookeka Жыл бұрын
Hi Kathy, I buy linen online. My only source here is Joann, and what is displayed here in their stores is crappy compared to what might be available elsewhere. I purchased linen from Stylemaker Fabrics recently and often from Mood online, when there is a sale. Linen is currently a bit expensive, and I can only afford it during sales.
