I cant believe it! I pulled out this pattern yesterday as I decided to sew this for spring and make 2 matching pieces , A pencil skirt and tailored shorts Mine will be in simple navy and I have thought long and hard about doing a jean skirt and vest also, because I have purchased 2 pair of cowboy boots and I sure want to wear them!! this is a great pattern! Karon you are an absolute master of matching pattern to fabric; this is a gift you have and you are blessed! Lovely work also You inspired me to stop serging the inside seams of blouses and sew beautiful French seams which I will do for this particular project Thank you for sharing your lovely and exquisite work Blessings to you~

In the knitting world, we choose our size by measuring a sweater we already have that fits the way we like-of at least somewhat similar design-and compare to the finished garment measurements of the pattern. So this is what I do with sewing as well, because typical sewing patterns have way too much design ease for me that I look like I’m wearing too-big clothes. But, don’t beat yourself up about it 💕 We need to give ourselves grace when we make a mistake

Karon, you have the most lovely ideas for pattern and fabric matching! You always inspire me❤. So sorry to hear your favorite pants shrunk😕. After I open new fabric I surge the cut edges, tie off and into the laundry it goes. Don’t be discouraged with knits, it does take some practice. For knit dressier pants I always surge the edges of all the seams without trimming anything off before sewing any seams. Sew my final seams with a small 0.5 /2.5 zigzag stitch and press open. I often use a twin needle for the hem. Once you get more comfortable with your serger it is life changing!😊

Oh dear. I’m sorry you were so disappointed with the Nephaline blouse. It would be worth thinking about the balance between your disappointment and not having the patience to rework the Nephaline. I don’t think it would be such a big job to alter the blouse after all and with just a few adjustments you would have a lovely blouse. The material you were making it in is lovely and suits you very well. Worth a try?

I pre-washed my wool fabric and it shrank 6" lengthwise. Glad that I washed it before sewing with it. When I learned how dirty fabric is, I started washing everything. Since I only sew with natural fibers, I make sure that I get things right the first time because linen and wool is not cheap.
@cookeka
@cookeka 7 күн бұрын
Yes, great habit and I agree. Linen and wool are expensive fabric. I don't normally wash my wool and linen. I dry clean those. I wanted to do the same for the ponted but was not willing to waste money on something I could do but it should have been done first. Lesson learned. Thanks for watching.

Oh, I would be sad too! Maybe put it in time out for a bit and come back to it later. I would try taking a couple of inches out of the center back and see what that does? Then simply cut out the side seams, no need to unpick. Try it on and pin it to wear you like it. The ruffles look so pretty, I hope you can save it. The sleeveless shirts look great. They are going to be a good option when it warms up. I like sleeveless shirts under blazers. You can still look put together without getting too hot.

We each have had the very same disappointment of sewing up a garment only to discover that when finished, it was too large or too small cloths-but everything else about the garment was perfectly finished. And, we LOVE your new hairstyle also. :-)

Hi Karon, I love seeing all these beautiful shirts you make. It’s very encouraging for me. I have the Nepheline on my list to make. The body measurements put me in a size 5, but that gives me a whole 8 inches of ease. It would be voluminous indeed. I think the size 3 gives me 4 inches of ease around the bust. How much ease do I really need? I guess it’s just the style of this top. It continues to have even more ease at the hip. I know it’s meant to be billowy and swingy, but it makes me nervous. It is a beautiful blouse, but not what I’m used to. I think if you just unpick the collar, you’ll be able to recut a smaller size from the body pieces since there is so much ease built in. Taking a break is a good idea. I think you can still save that shirt.
