I am the proud second owner of one of these machines. The first owner was my grandmother, it wasa purchased for her by my grandfather.. I have to get the friction wheel replaced but it will be worth it!

i recently got the all green 1953 Elna machine, just watched a video of a machine like yours stitching through 8 oz leather like butter, can you tell me if (when fixed up), the one i have should be able to do leather as well?

So leather shouldn’t be to much of a problem?

All Elna Supermatic machines use a rubber friction wheel - commonly called a pulley or drive pulley. You can see videos about this on YT. A friction wheel is an inefficient way to transfer driving power to a needle bar if you want to sew leather. This is a domestic machine. Please look at online or pdf manuals for this machine. They don't talk about leather. For a reason. Please go to online forums for leather workers and see their posts about using domestic machines. And if you make inquiries please state what kind of leather you intend to sew. Not all leather is the same.
