Jenny, I watched a couple of other how to videos before I came to yours. IMO yours was, by far, the clearest and easiest to follow. I especially liked the idea of using pins to help create a shank. I have saved this to my "How to do practical things" playlist. Great job and thanks so much!

I repaired my button thanks to Jenny. Instead of ordinary thread I used light (ten pound test) braided microfiber fishing line available at any Walmart. This line is thinner than sewing thread and exactly one million times stronger. Very sharp scissors are necessary to cut braided line cleanly.

I bought something off the store & when I put it in the Spin-Dryer, the button popped off. This is a very helpful video for people like me who don't have a background in sewing. The sewing action is a bit off the upper-left hand side, so I was struggling to follow it at first, but it got better (centering). I was able to successfully sew my 1st button, LOL! Thank you, Jenny T.

Nice tutorial - I've never had occasion to use a needle and thread before, and after losing a button on a pea coat, this tutorial was a life saver. I would have had no clue about the shank or doubling the thread over. Nice work.
@LindaSailor10 жыл бұрын
I think sewing on buttons was the first sewing I learned to do - when I was about ten, I'd guess. Then came hemming, and finally I took home economics and learned how to really sew - on a machine. I was the rebel in that class. The teacher wanted the girls (and it was female-only at the time) to sew themselves a dress. I didn't wear dresses. I sewed myself a pair of jeans.
@KalaabPickering10 жыл бұрын
Good on ya, Linda! To hell with the status quo, I say. I was kind of embarrassed to post this, being 32 years old and never sewn a stitch, but I'm not a big believer that sewing is for women-only. Seems like the kind of thing anyone who strives for self-reliance would want to know how to do.

Thanks so much JennyT! It's exciting and empowering to learn how to sew a button and see how easy it really is! Now I'm inspired to reinforce the other buttons still on my shirt (they are very nice buttons and I don't want to risk losing them).

My little dog Puck jumped up on my chest while I was laying down. Then before I could react, he started chewing on one of the buttons of a new shirt I had just bought. He cracked the plastic and ruined the button, leaving the thread intact. No one here knows how to sew on a button, so I had the idea of checking KZbin and found your wonderful video. I can wear the shirt to work tomorrow! Thank you Thank you Thank you!
