I like to use the left over zipper to sew on loops to hang what I'm making, like a pouch or potholder. I also use these loops to put a key ring on or use alone as a place to hook my keys . Super cute when it's just one side of the zipper teeth. Just remove the stop bar and the zipper teeth are free to do what you want. Perfect width for loops. I have a lot of these so I can use different color zipper loops on the same project. Thanks for showing this version of a pouch, how clever

Super cute! I'd like to try it. I'm thinking I might take advantage of the fusible foam side to fuse one big piece of a busy print on opposite side, to kind of double as a lining while disguising the FPP-like stitches created from the right side of pouch. Hope that makes sense.

They are so pretty. These would be good for keeping your scissors in. With the foam they would protect their tips. You could have a few for rotary cutter and spare blades, small notions, etc. Great also for using up odd pieces of left over foam. Just join them togeher and off you go. Love this idea.

Here’s a tip: Smaller is not easier! I tried to do a 4” wide zip pouch as my first zipper project. It took far too long (hours). The next one I did, I used an 11” zipper with 9” wide fabric and had a much better experience. It took maybe 5-6 zippers and now I don’t think twice about them. They truly get easier with time!

Nice project. But I'm wondering - if you're using fusible foam, you could use the fusible side on the BACK, and then when you get through with your quilting you could fuse a lining onto the back and cover up all that stitching, right? How would that work?
@SewtheDistance
@SewtheDistance 3 сағат бұрын
You could but you’ll still have seams on the sides that way. I do have a tutorial on a lined zipper pouch if you are interested. Also, the fusible foam I used for this project is one-sided fusible, but you could use two sided if wanted to. I would just be careful with your iron and pressing surfaces. Hope this helps!

Super cute! I didn't understand what you did with the zipper teeth to get the curved ends when sewing the side of the pouch. Could explain further? Thank you so much! 🌷

Thank you! No problem--when getting ready to sew the sides, turn the zipper teeth to be on the inside (facing down towards the body of the bag with the pretty fabric) and clip it like that. Then sew the sides. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if it doesn't. ❤️

Thank you, so shift the teeth so they lay flat, then sew the seam?
@SewtheDistance

Yes, so they are flat and facing the inside. I have another zipper pouch tutorial coming out today where I show this in better detail. I hope it helps. I should have shown it more clearly in this video. ❤

I look forward to seeing what you do with the Tilda bundles as I purchased one myself. I see a dresden if combined with a solid to break it up a bit. Again, look forward to your ideas.

Great tutorial. I'd definitely add a lining inside though because it looks unfinished when you look inside.

If you save the pieces as you trim, then you could use those pieces on the second side for a mirror effect…!

I like the idea of the curved zipper application. I'm not sure how it is done. Can you clarify?
@SewtheDistance
@SewtheDistance 2 ай бұрын
I hope I can help, but I am not sure what exactly needs to be clarified. I will try, however! I curved the edges and then followed that curve when I sewed it together. To make the curve, I use a circle template of some kind (I can't remember what I used in this video) like a plate. I make the curve and then cut it out. I sew around the curve. I hope this helps! 🥰

I would like to make a tote bag using this method. Would I need to make the bottom piece wider than 5 inches and mark my lines further from the center line? I want to box the corners so I’m thinking I would need to make the bottom piece larger so it would show more on the front and back.

Thank you! So glad you love this! You could make the bottom any size you'd like, and depending on the size of the boxed corners, you could accommodate them for sure! My goal in this tutorial was to keep it super simple to encourage others to try zippers. You can do so much with this: add a lining, make it bigger, smaller, add boxed corners, add zipper tabs--so much you could do! I love that you are going to modify it! Thanks so much for sharing your idea! ❤️
