This was such a detailed explanation that was helpful in so many ways. Not just for this pattern but with sewing strips together, ironing, cutting and sewing. Really appreciated tip on using square ruler without having to purchase triangle ruler. Will be making a quilt with this design.❤️

I love this pattern. I made one for a couple last year for their first baby. It was larger than a crib size, but smaller than a throw. I figured they could use it as the baby got older. They have used it once, on the grass in a park last summer. I still love the pattern and plan to use it again. Your colors are lovely!

Very nice! I’ve seen one made withe continuous strip. Then connect the ends over and over! I like yours better!,,, also I just tried your faux binding . Sewing from the back to front. I didn’t have enough material on the front for the miter corner. I got to try again, I hate hand sewing binders!! 😎

I'm sorry but I've had several goes at this and it just doesn't work for me. when I sew the two strips together, top and bottom, face to face, I end up with a long strip 4.5 inches deep. Then I put the triangular ruler on, with the tip at the top of the strips, amd cut out a triangle, I get 4.5 triangles. Looking at the tutorial and counting the inches across the bottom of the triangle I get (or it looks like) 9inches. I cant see how this works with the tip of the triangle ruler at the top of the 4.5 strips ? can anyone clarify this for me please. ?

Hi, Shirley for some reason I can not find your comment about the placemat. I will answer it here and please let me know that you did get it. It was 21" yours could have been more if you cut a longer blade. You can see 10:46 the difference between my two.
@shirleyporter71076 жыл бұрын
SewVeryEasy Hi Laura, my length was 8”, so yes that would it. I love the pattern, I’m doing it with a practice fabric and a flat polyester batting. I have not made placemats before and I use Hobbs batting for quilts. What kind of batting do you find best for placemats, I want to make sets of these for Christmas. Thank you so much for the tutorial.
@SewVeryEasy6 жыл бұрын
Poly can melt! So be careful as to what you are putting on it...no hot pots. I would recommend a Cotton blend like Hobbs. You can pre-shrink it first, to keep the placemats flat.

SewVeryEasy thank you Laura.

Thank you for demonstrating that it IS POSSIBLE to sew jelly roll strips and not have a wave in the middle! I have no problems with my strip sets, I do them similar to you. But some "FAT" sites and others tell everyone that you get a wavy middle when sewing.. which makes me crazy that they say to waste fabric ... because they can't iron correctly.
@tessabonvouloir33356 жыл бұрын
Yes, if you iron your fabrics the way she did with the ruler you won't get that bend. Just treat the fabric carefully.
@warialdasue6 жыл бұрын
I just learnt I’ve been ironing incorrectly.
@newbeequilter6 жыл бұрын
+Livinnpjs - I laughed when I read your comment - I knew after the first sentence what else you were going to say. (It makes me crazy too.:-) But keep in mind she's a less-experienced sewist than Laura. Additionally, she owns a good sized fabric store. So she probably hasn't needed or seen the advantages of being economical with her fabric, or come to realize there's more satisfaction in pressing her strips with a little more care. The end results are certainly worth the extra time it takes.
