Nice video. I love to practice free motion on fabric panels for my young grandkids. Trust me, a 4-year-old doesn't care about the quilting ... they just love the picture. And when you feel comfortable make different designs in different sections, it's like doodling. Try to follow the swirls on a Disney Princess's hair or make large "puffs" of smoke from Thomas Train's choo-choo, make spiderwebs for Spiderman! Write their names in cursive in the sky (Draw it first - plan how you'll dot the "i" and cross the "t") It's a lot of fun. (I do this on my 'lil $100 domestic machine - just drop the feed dogs and raise the tension)

I just got a Handi Quilter Infinity. I haven’t yet done any free motion quilting. I did have prior to this, a midarm machine which as you know is totally free motion. The difference between midarm free motion and long arm free motion is overwhelming to me. I had the midarm for about 5 years and I have been DREAMING of a long arm but was surprised that I was able to get one ! I have a bunch of quilts I’m using ProStitcher with that I have to get done but when those are completed, I’m going to “attack” free motion on a long arm. Do you have a video with rulers on a long arm ? That would be fun too because I have a BUNCH or rulers as well. Thanks for this video. You’ve got me beat ! I feel like such a klutz ! Laugh Out Loud !

I purchased a good sized blackboard to practice my designs on. It took months before I finally tried swirls on an actual quilt. Remember, your not perfect and your quilting won’t be perfect either. But it’s always better to have a finished quilt than a perfect one. Practicing will improve your skills though. I found using cheap fleece to be perfect for practicing as well. You don’t have to go through the pain of loading a top, middle and backing. Just load the fleece and have at it!
