I agree. Most of the time I only like about 3 or 4 things in a collection. The rest are eh.... kind of prints to me--nothing I'd purchase on a whim. What can I say except I must be old school. But I see the dilemma that shops face. I also wonder if this is just a passing phase; time will tell.

This would be so frustrating for me. 😅 I like to choose my own fabrics for a quilt. I would never buy a collection. I don’t like having the same print in multiple colors. I realize that people like the convenience of collections/precuts and not having to decide on color choices. But that’s the most fun. I don’t want a cookie cutter quilt like everyone else. Plus there is so much waste in a precut versus only buying what is written on a pattern. Also you are stuck with the ugly colors in a precut that would just be donated. But collections are very popular with todays quilters and it will save time for them trying to find companion fabrics. You will probably sell more fabric this way too. Good for you to listening to this popular request. Shoppers like myself will have to go on the hunt! 😁 I’ll never complain about spending more time in a quilt store though. Good luck❗️❗️❗️

There was a CW section, a 30s section, and a WOW section, which catered to their customers. When most bolts were gone remaining ones were integrated into the outer walls, and the newest fabrics took center stage. Staff knew their stock so well, I never had trouble finding anything!

My mother & I went to their fabric department, looked at patterns, found a Simplicity skirt and a Vogue top that we were able to put together and create our own version of that dress. We worked together for weeks and I had exactly the dress I wanted. Plus she tatted a lovely bridal tiara with lace hearts and seed pearls. Not everybody is a Graphic Designer, where they can naturally coordinate fabrics, by going higgeldy piggeldy around the store, picking and choosing colours and fabrics that 'go together'; Our quilt group started in 2000...used to drive us NUTS, going into quilt shops, where nothing was on shelves with their friends, their cousins, their neighbours... meaning nothing was together in the original intended collection! We had to run all over the store to find the Lines of Fabric that were curated/created together by the designer! This was 24 years ago! We never bought fabric by 'colorway' for a quilt! We were always looking for a Line of fabric, especially to start a new project.... the time for looking for fabric by colorway, is usually at the end of a project, when needing something for a small thin border, binding, or backing.

These days people have been programmed to let the designers think for them. People used to mix and match by colors and styles that they liked. In a way I find it curious as people don't do that with the clothes they wear - they tend to choose a top and pants or skirt for themselves and don't necessarily buy what is on a given mannequin.

Even though I don't care for the "modern" fancied up collections for myself, it is nice to see how the fancies have been moderated to make them possible for modern folks to turn into nicely orchestrated quilts. If course, along the way the incredible color-wheel categorizing was thoroughly intimidating in its own right . . . I'll have to find out where y'all are so I might consider visiting the store . . . not going to happen (age) but a nice idea. I hope your 'fix" of the brokenness will pay off. Oops, I have one last thing to say. The fabric color or anything else has noting to do with quilting. Quilting is the process of sewing through layers of fabric and sometimes includes batting and serves to hold all the parts in place. Incidentally it can be used to REALLY make a surface stand out. It can be a solid color and if sewn over it makes a quilt. OK, end of rant. Still think your vid is briliant.

I did work with fabrics for years and yes changing all those bolts around is hard work. However, what a huge difference in how customer-friendly the finished products are with the pre-cuts and fat quarters right alongside.

Great work and glad too see you done. I hate having to hunt fabric colors to go with a collection. That’s like going on a wild goose chase. I think it looks better also. I find that I like buying 1/2 yard or yard bundles of the whole collection then I know everything goes together.

Love the new arrangement. I have always wondered why shops didn’t do this years ago. At the same time fabric lines are larger and more precuts are convenient.

The cool part of this is, for people who don't want everything bunched together, you still have the option of browsing. We "browsers" haven't lost anything. Win-Win all around!!!

We think so too!! Thanks for watching!

You fixed it! Love that the precuts are with the collection. Saves time looking for the border, backing and binding fabrics when I only purchased, won or was gifted just the jelly roll or layer cake. Great job! 🎉
