I actually really like the city. My friend has lived there for 5 years and now she moved to Dubai. I am moving to Abu Dhabi in March for 6 months. I am excited about it. It's great to visit if you know people there and do like doing every day life things on your vacation. That is the best way to relax actually. I have travelled a lot and usually come back home being tired haha. Relaxing is important too. So far I have lived in Costa Rica and Singapore as well. I am not a millionaire. I lived in Costa Rica for an internship during my masters degree and lived in Singapore for studying abroad during my bachelors degree. To be able to do all this I worked many days and nights in shops at the airport and as passenger assistent while also studying law. Now I am moving to Abu Dhabi while I am actually working there so for the first time I don't have to do crazy night shifts to prepare for my time living abroad. You actually don't need a lot of money to have fun in the UAE. Hotels are some of the cheapest in the developed world and so many other things can be done for a decent price. Car rent is cheap, food can be found for cheap in many places. Unless you want to go shopping for gold or something it is not that expensive for tourists. It really is a misconception that you have to be rich for the UAE. I have been to Dubai and Abu Dhabi 6 times when I was a student over the last 8 years. It is also perfect to combine with a trip to insanely beautiful Oman for example. I did that and loved it. I also combined Abu Dhabi with a trip to the most beautiful islands in the world: the Seychelles. Again: I did all this while being a student and just working a temp job while also having to pay my rent. You do not have to be a millionaire to travel anywhere. (I am from Amsterdam, the Netherlands by the way)

So, these Sex and the City reviews inspired me to watch the first two seasons of the show for the first time (I was too young to see the uncensored version when it was airing, and we didn't have HBO in our house anyway). I gotta say the early seasons are surprisingly grounded. These women are in their late 30s/early 40s, so they're obviously successful and can afford nice things (except for Carrie who's a writer), but the key conflict is that they all lack healthy, long-term relationships and struggle to learn from their failed relationships. I can't say that it's 100% relatable to non-rich people, but there's nothing objectionable to seeing a high-powered lawyer, an accomplished art dealer, and the founder of a PR firm living a fashionable NYC lifestyle. However, the "stuff" appropriately takes a backseat to the character development unless it's vital to the plot. This movie would have you believe that these women don't have anything better to do other than go shopping and act like nitwits. The show's first two seasons don't have any shopping montages, and they at least talk about things that the average woman can relate to. Of course, I can only speak for the first couple of seasons, but the show had a worthy goal of showing women of the late 90s approaching sex and relationships in a humorous, but intelligent way. This movie represents how the show was marketed during the TBS syndication years.
@starkman78
@starkman78 5 жыл бұрын
MsSphinx91 in the other seasons, they moved forward in ways that made sense. With career advancement came more money but materialistic things never took center stage save for episodes that deconstructed it. The first movie was a bit extra, but it was still relatable and still made sense for the characters. This? Is a hot mess sizzling on top of a tire fire. After more than a decade of character development, these women suddenly became caricatures of caricatures, and those caricatures are of Ugly Americans. I don’t know what they could have been thinking with this movie. 😔

I haven't seen the movie but Carrie rejecting the TV is honestly the saddest thing? Out of context the TV looks like a bad gift idea, but it's clearly not... She got Big a watch because money = love, and Big got her the TV because he wants to spend time with her? How dare he?
@MamaMOB
@MamaMOB Жыл бұрын
He wanted to spend time with her by doing something he knew she didn't want to do but he did want to do. He knew she didn't want a TV in the bedroom and he installed one "as a gift for her" anyway. I don't know you, but I'd rather watch both seasons of The Carrie Diaries (kind of sold as a prequel to the TV show, but actually based on the books... Good but confusing) than this... At least by 2010, Noth was already Peter Florrick and Willie Garson was already Mozzie, so they had something to fall back on. Is it me or is Samantha trying her best to ape Blanche Devereaux? Alice Eve's boobs showing makes this a slasher movie, only instead of the characters it's the show's legacy that's being brutally murdered.

Sambou Jaiteh That strawman character is so good. It's incredibly brave and clever to stereotype right-wingers; nobody else is doing it right now, it's not at all obvious or played out, and it's definitely true that they're the only political faction who do anything deserving of mockery. I hope to see more 'Walt Right is creepy and hates things' jokes in future- they're original AND hilarious. LOL i hope he parodies drumpf next too!! 🤣🤣😂😂😄
@MsSphinx91

@Vermouth, Snob has a character for several stereotypes of people that get on his comment section to complain. As for strawmen characters/arguments, you're actually presenting one yourself as Snob has never claimed that this is the only political faction deserving of mockery; even though the others like "Actual Lee" are based on the non-political stereotypes. For a couple of years, he's been getting comments demanding why he doesn't "bash" Muslims the same way he does Christians, and his response has always been the same: 1) I'm not bashing Christianity, just these silly movies and their portrayal of Christianity and 2) I actually studied Christianity and know what I'm talking about, and I can't say the same for Islam. Yet, there are still comments about this. So my guess is he got fed up and created a character. I can't say why he chose the name "Walt Right," but it's not like those particular complaints were coming from the left. The left extremists tend to bash all religions equally or to single out Christianity over non-Western religions. Perhaps, he'll have a response to this someday as well. But so far, he hasn't received a whole lot of criticism from that end of the spectrum, so it may not even come up. From my observation, the purpose of these characters is to respond to criticism, not to moderate and make everyone feel comfortable.

My favourite thing about this review is that Brad actually seems to like the series, and can contrast the movies with it. Because that's what a review deserves; the series wasn't half bad. The movies have characters named 'Dick Spurt'.

Admittedly my fandom of this series is due to my late mother's love of the series, but after her passing, I rewatched Sex and the City and I loved it as a great time-capsule of late 90's-early 00's for the life and love of women in their 30's. This movie encompasses none of that. It takes all of these multi-layered BEAUTIFUL women in their 30's, with their own flaws and strengths, all well-written and carefully built to have definition traits and writes them into being the most two-dimensional unf**kable angry and BITTER hags I have ever seen written in a film ostensibly made for like-minded strong-willed women. What brings me back to this review and the first films review is that Snob correctly knows all of that above and makes fun of the fact that these women are not the women in the TV series. They are perverse facsimiles of their original characters- absurd tropes of "1%-ers" first world entitled women who demand they get what they want... or else. Even down to Big and Carries relationship, where in the show they were mature adults who loved each other and were practically made for each other, here in these two movies being nitpicking people who practically can't stand being around each other. A far cry from Carrie and Big's almost child-like and yet oddly endearing adult love for each other. It's gross and again like Snob, these movies are horrible bastardizations of the original series. I have now ran out of energy to write anymore about this!

+Tommy Deonauth's Archives This was back before the Marvel/DC EU's really kicked off to the extent of being "rivals" as the fans put it, so you could see dumb shit like this. Nowadays, by reddit fanboy perspective, the moment you sign up to play a desk clerk for a hotel Tony Stark visits, you're studio branded with an actual branding iron preventing you from portraying a character in the "rival" studios.
