Lemme start this off with, in no way am I trying to defend this man or his actions. But a lot of times when there is regret, your brain, as a defense, will "lighten" the language when you speak about the wrongs you've committed. Like if someone murdered a man and felt bad about it, he'd likely use language like "that's when I did it". When you're vague, you don't have to remember it all right then. I hope that made sense. I think he knows everything was all wrong. But the brain is a funny and fickle organ.

That is horrible, it really is. I was molested from a young age when my parents sent me to boarding school. It didn’t turn me gay, or make me into a sexual abuser but I was so angry, depressed and felt disgusting and rejected that at 16 when I was introduced to drugs I just went at them like a demon. I used all drugs. Then in my twenties it was mostly meth and acid that I’d do, sometimes heroin and sometimes barbiturates. Then I became addicted to heroin and that really damaged my life. I have overdosed and come so close to death over ten times. I just had some crazy luck, for example I was once found lying in long grass by a woman walking her dog. I was already blue around the lips and the tips of my fingers and as white as a sheet. It was around the time that mobile phones had just become within the budget of ordinary people. She phoned the police and an ambulance. She thought I was dead, but she still phoned an ambulances. Being revived from something like that is harrowing. I never learned. I got clean when the woman I lived with and loved became pregnant. When I looked at my baby for the first time I knew I wouldn’t use drugs again. There’s no doubt though I wasted a large part of my life. But suffering abuse as a kid really does completely destroy your persona as a child and you grow up very damaged.

I was molested when I was 6 by a 17 year old girl. With that, I led a panel in college of just guys and we all talked about everything. Well….. one of the things I asked them was “have any of y’all ever been sexually molested?” come to find out 44 of the 60 guys I had in the group were molested by a grown woman around 8-12 years old…. Then it made me realize… Do you know how many female predators are out here that probably do this to little boys and those same kids grow up to do the same things to other people? Exp- R Kelly.

That’s sad. We had neighbors who were an older couple (maybe in their 70s) when I was a kid and one day this adult “son” of (allegedly) theirs just suddenly appeared. He was like early 30s but their other children were in their 50s. Anyway, this guy looked a lot like this guy but had nappy hair and looked like he was racially mixed while this couple were both white, and he sounded exactly like this guy. I swear that this man was hidden in their basement for decades. He had to have been. Our theory is that he was the illegitimate child of one of their daughters and they kept him a secret. Now the confirmation that this speech impediment is the result of severe/extreme neglect makes perfect sense.

My mom tried making advances on me when I was younger. Saying if I weren’t her son she’d date me if she was my age, solely talking about my looks and not what I think. Even messed with my sister when she was a teen. That lead to my sister doing things to me. Now I’m a self aware sex addict/substance abuser. I’ve been intoxicated since middle school because that’s when a shift in my mind. You become so numb and cold to a world that only showed you animalistic urges. reach out to your doctor for help or find a psychologist or support group of some sort to start talking through it. you went through some horrible shit, but you are aware of it and aware of what the consequences may be on your behavior and that is a huge first step. everybody has demons, myself included and just acknowledging there is some things to work through is more than many will do, just gotta take that next step while it is still your choice to take it and not forced on you after doing something horrible to somebody else, repeating the cycle. i hope you find the help you want, and may very well need and can move past your history, kick those demons out and start living more for the future and what you want to do with your life with those past traumas staying in the past. good luck, random internet stranger, i believe in you and hope you find your peace and can move on to better days.

Just remember how you felt and still feel, and how it haunts you, and remind yourself that if you make a mistake, you're inflicting the same thoughts, anxieties, etc. onto someone else. And then there's a chance they'll inflict someone after that. Don't be responsible for something you couldn't help, and that happened to you, bc once you do you're taking your pain, and pointing it at someone else. You're a good person for even taking time to consider and admit your pain and confusions. Google your local mental health facility and contact them. I promise you, they are so kind and understanding and there for you in an authentic way. Do not become the monster you were subjected to otherwise you endured your pain and came this far in vain. I so much feel for you and hope to the entirety of my being that you take control and act now. Nothing was your fault and you did not deserve it. Release your burden by giving away your shame and pain and accepting that you are innocent. You are STILL NOW innocent. Once you act, you are no longer innocent. You are actively forfeiting it by choice. Help is there all you have to do is take the first step towards finally taking control of your life from the ones who took control from you.

You can imagine that the words he choose are dictated by the level of shame he feels. I don't think it's an indication of what he comprehends. Talking about what he did must be very hard for him. To add: And talking about what he himself went through as a child.

Depending on what those children had gone through, their boundaries may have already been violated before he came into their lives. Or they simply didn't understand the ramifications of what they were doing was wrong in any way. There are so many variables that expose a child to risk, and perpetrators can use the same approach that they had been groomed with. Often the impact doesn't hit victims until their old enough to understand. A person may become severely depressed at a young age, and have an opportunity to self medicate... which is easier than talking and it works to an extent. They may not even connect or recognize what happened to them to BE trauma, until years later. Or they feel they brought it on themselves, somehow. Especially in an atmosphere of victim shaming, and denial. Instead they're treated as a weak willed drug addict, and their abuse history is overlooked completely. As uncomfortable as the subject is, it needs to be exposed. I understand the anger, and how inflammatory these interviews can be. I just don't have room in my heart for all that hate. I reached a point in my life where I accepted that I am not the Karma police... judge and jury. We can't change the past, but we can all try to create a better future. I'm just grateful for Mark's efforts to bring it all out into the open.

This is hard to watch. I was molested from age 3-5 by my second oldest brother. I was a willing participant, but knew what was happening was wrong. One day it just ended and I think my mom may have caught on to something inappropriate happening. Im now 31 and spoke not one word of this until a couple of years ago. I struggled for years thinking I might be gay, and to this day I struggle with sex addiction, intimacy issues, countless one night stands, I haven’t ever done anything illegal, but I’m also struggling with porn addiction. After countless hours of therapy, research, and talking to professionals, it is truly remarkable as to how many people, men in particular become sex addicts in adulthood after being molested as kids. It’s disgusting how people can abuse innocent children and it can completely screw you up for life. I feel as though I’m now on the road to healing, and just a few weeks ago I decided to write my offending brother a letter. I’m not expecting an apology but I just needed it off my chest. I don’t hate him.. and maybe this will help him too. My mom is also deceased now and I hate myself for never bringing this up to her… I wish peace for anyone whose ever been offended and abused. From what you are saying I can see the trauma and confusion, I hope you are looking into therapy for your experience and find it in you to stop blaming yourself. You don’t have to feel guilt for not discussing it with your mom, I would hope that doing so would have helped you and that you had a mom who would have let you know that you are not to blame, that you are loved, you will be loved and that what happened doesn’t define you. Yeah he says “fooling around” but he’s been through it himself and he’s probably very uncomfortable discussing it. These words help him tell the story. He doesn’t sound like the most intelligent man and the words he uses he’s familiar with and are what he chooses. He’s a victim originally himself, he clearly understands looking back at the damage it did to him and the damage he’s done to those boys. He takes accountability in the video, he never makes excuses for himself only explaining he was also molested. Everyone is so upset in the other videos about people not taking accountability and yet here he is doing just that and you’re upset at him for saying “fooling around” he’s been charged he’s been found out everyone knows what he’s done. His victims and their families know, he doesn’t have to use the word “rape” to get it across because everyone knows. Their is no downplaying it, he’s telling a story and used words to make it easier to tell it. I’m not saying what he did is okay as a matter of fact it makes me so angry on the inside but I will give him props for acknowledging that he damaged their lives and caring more about that than what he did to himself.

I'm 43 and was abused by my Step Father as was my older sister. The mind games he would play to keep us quiet were horrible. I remember thinking if I told my sister would die, and vice versa. Luckily at 16 she got the courage to tell. Mum didn't believe it at 1st as she saw or knew nothing. Luckily she saw the light and felt great regret that she'd over looked the little signs that she thought she should have noticed. Has it affected my life? Hell YES, but will I let it define or control me. No. Before she died last year, I think that was the most beautiful time for us all. We talked about it. Cried about it, but we all came to the conclusion it's over, gone. I feel for this guy. Don't condone it one minute, but that could have been me sitting there if I'd let it take control.

It's disgusting to actually get with a 14 year old as an adult, but that's around the age where someone has enough secondary sexual characteristics to be seen as attractive by non-pedophilies. We shouldn't be commenting on who does or doesn't have the attraction and assigning moral value to that. We should instead make it clear that it's the adult's responsibility to recognize that a 14 year old is not emotionally ready for sex and to not attempt to court such a person. It's hard to watch this guy without getting the impression that he's not very bright and just went with what his hormones told him without thinking about the consequences. Imagine if he had a better support network for his disability and was taught about sexual consent. I was triggered when I first saw these videos. However, these videos allow me to look at the abuse from the outside, for the first time! Not all abusers are as forthcoming as this guy! It's actually healing to hear him as a former abuser apologise for his crimes! He didn't excuse his behaviour! He also showed clearly, that some abusers, (I'm not sure the ratio), actually arise out of abuse themselves! Which doesn't excuse the crimes that they commit, but, goes some distance in explaining the development of their pathology! The abused, and the abusers, telling their stories in the same arena is challenging to watch at times. I myself have to be in a certain mind frame to engage here whenever I do! However, this space is unique in that these issues 'are' discussed! These experiences are shared in the hope that we viewers in some way, (however small), may gain something from these stories being told, as much as the interviewees express the benefit they've gained from the opportunity to share their experiences, and unburden themselves.. My ""step dad"" (hate saying that).. got with my Mom because of my sister and I. He always told the story how the 1st time he met us (To meet our mom), he saw my sister and I (3 & new born. I'm the oldest), & "fell in love". He said he knew we needed him and he needed us. Well, he took no time at all to start messing with me. Even after he was caught, and kicked out. She let him back in, & they got married. I was rapped and molested for 15 years. It got worse and worse over times. When I was 10, a family member who stayed 1 week with us caught on to what he was doing to me & asked me. I was terrified, but I told. DSS got involved. He was out of the house for almost 2 years. The whole time my mom still saw him regularly. Finally, otw to an interview/meeting, my mom told me to lie & tell them that he never messed with me. Fake cry & do whatever I have to do to make them believe me. So, I did just that. Not knowing it would make him come back home. Of course they didn't believe me, but had to go off my word. He came back. Again, didn't hesitate to start back messing with me. Got worse as I said. Violently raping me. Well, I finally ran away at 16 years old. That left my 13 year old sister for him. Well, it took her almost 3 years to finally tell me what he was doing. Mess with me is one thing, but you don't mess with my sister! I had planned to kill him. But, I told authorities instead. They immediately got involved. "Step dad" ran. They tested my sister's underwear from that morning before school, and found his semen in them. 😡 She was put in foster care. Ect. His own, blood daughter (step sister I grew up with) came forward and told her story. He started messing with his own daughter at the age of 1. Sick mf.. We finally had trial. He was found guilty and has to serve 300 years that they made into a mandatory 60 year sentence, then another 10 years, so 70 years before he can go up for parole. He will obviously be dead by then. He tried hanging himself at one point when he first went to jail, but they saved him. Woo! That felt good to tell!!

Having anger towards someone who has done such awful things, especially to children, is very natural. It is difficult to listen to stories like this. I refuse to have hate towards anyone though. This man clearly had awful things happen to him as a kid, and then lived on the streets with no education. It makes sense that he did what he did. Not okay, of course, but its helpful to understand someone's story that leads them to do what they do. I have a lot of respect and gratitude for him telling his story. It takes a lot of courage to do it because he knows a lot of people will get stuck in their anger towards him.

This one really hit home for me experiencing this firsthand. This guy Mike, he may stay away from young children now but I can guarantee you deep down he still has an itch for it. I had an investigator tell me they don't change what they crave, she said just like you and me, were married have a husband, heterosexual. we like men, just like gays are attracted to the same sex, these people are atrracted to children. He deceived his wife marrying her, he didn't want her, he wanted those children. I married one in 1991, recently divorced with a 3 year old daughter and a son' 9, he never touched my son. He was the perfect husband and I know why now, let me just say they destroy families, most of all they rob your child of the innocence, get into their tiny little minds and teach them unspeakable things, the very things you thought you were protecting them from. Eleven years under my nose, it wasn't an everyday thing, long periods of not touching her at all. At 14 she came to me and told me. I turned him in, went through the courts, divorced him and my daughter has paid the price, she'll never be the same. He even had the audacity to say my daughter was promiscuous, at 5 or 6? Really? She didn't know what promiscuous was at that age. So, Please, I beg of you to protect your children at all costs, pedophiles are liars and never change. If they can hide this grotesque thing they do for years right under your nose do you really think they change? No, they got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. They'll always blame something as to why they do it. Not all children, especially young boys grow up to be pedophiles. That is just an excuse and another lie they tell, they want your sympathy. Let that sink in.

Not making excuses for him, but he’s spoken about all of these things over and over again in counseling for decades as well as currently being on medication for paranoid schizophrenia. I don’t think he seems void of emotion recounting the story, he just seems somewhat apathetic of possibly exhausted by speaking about these heavy subjects for the umpteenth time. I don’t know this man but he seems to have a very clear understanding of how he inflicted pain upon other troubled boys and has regret and remorse over it. This series isn’t an acting series. Some people cry and some people can’t or don’t feel the need to cry retelling their stories. Remember, they’ve lived with these experiences for a veryyy long time, whereas we’re just hearing about it for the first time, so we’re shocked by it and to them it’s just old hat.
