My cousin was an original punk in the mid 70’s long red Mohican haircut, piercings, chains the lot, went off grid lived in a commune, then left and became a nurse, you would never know to look at her now, she doesn’t even dye her hair, when my son broke his hand in a mosh pit,she went a bit misty eyed remembering moshing!

This band was a band that changed a lot of life,mine included .Mid seventies in the UK,poverty everywhere,no work,racial tensions,racism and a confict in Ireland,with sometimes some bombs in London.And a music scene with rich popstars composing sophisticated songs.So punk,and the Pistols,decided to do it themselves,obviously not the same way,so it was your back to basics songs,with authenticity.Rock'n'roll again.Congrats for your reaction.Should try the Clash.

You mention the great melody on this one. Glen Matlock, who was the original bass player and main.songwriter in the Sex Pistols, said that John Lydon (Johnny Rotten) was not only a brilliant lyricist, but had a real sense of melody to him too. We really hear it in this song.

They are all still alive except for Sid. The lead singer John Lydon now mostly lives in California with his wife of 42 years who he is caring for as she is suffering from Alzheimer’s. Sid died while waiting to go on trial for the murder of his American girlfriend Nancy....All the songs from this album are fantastic. My favourite is pretty vacant and holidays in the sun.

Sid did NOT kill Nancy. She was murdered by Rockets Redglare. Sid was passed out and Rockets stabbed her to death and robbed them of several thousand dollars.

The Sex Pistols were a short lived band starting out in ‘75 and lasting a couple of years, the lead singer is John Lyndon (Johnny Rotten) and is still around living in the USA most of the time, the others, with the exception of Sid Vicious who died of a drug OD in ‘79, are also around and still pursuing various projects. Though short lived the Sex Pistols had a massive influence on music and fashion. The U.K. at that time was troubled with high unemployment, strikes and civil unrest and they reflected the anger, hopelessness and frustration at that time of young people, of which I was one 😉

Oh, he’s still alive, still as controversial every time he opens his mouth, (which he does as much as possible), and still making music. He went on to form another every good band called Pil, which stood for Public Image Limited, after the Sex Pistols split. It was the shortest and most productive and revolutionary period in music, which changed culture today, without people being aware of it. Hip-hop was the other revolution that happened around the same time which changed culture, and the world looked very different after this fruitful period in music and fashion. Looks up ‘This Is Not A Love Song’ and ‘Rise’ for Pil songs.

You are the first person I've seen react to the Pistols who gets it. This band imploded quickly. The lead singer, Jonny Rotten, went back to his real name of Lydon, and formed PiL - where he got to show his craft. When the band broke up, singer John Lydon went on to form yet another astonishing and influential band, Public Image. They sound nothing like the Pistols, and their second album is considered a rock masterpiece to this day. Although the musicians are different, they are currently a functioning unit.

Great song from a great band - all of the original band are still alive and they have been known to do the odd re-union - there are some youtube videos of those gigs. Johnny and Steve live in LA now. The second bassist, Sid, died not long after the band split up. Glen, the original bassist is still going strong.

As the Sex Pistols were gaining attention, Sid Vicious (Simon John Ritchie) met Nancy Spungen, and the couple began a relationship that culminated in Spungen's death from an apparent stab wound while staying in New York City's Hotel Chelsea with Vicious. Under suspicion of murder, Vicious was released on bail; he was arrested again for assaulting Todd Smith, brother of Patti Smith, at a nightclub, and underwent drug rehabilitation on Rikers Island. He died in 1979 after overdosing on heroin. Less than four weeks after Vicious's death, The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle soundtrack album was released. On 15 December 1979, a compilation of live material recorded during his brief solo career was released as Sid Sings. Gary Oldman portrayed Vicious in the biopic Sid and Nancy (1986). In 2006, Vicious, along with the four original members of the Sex Pistols, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, although the band refused to attend.

All the members are alive except the bass player who sadly died of an overdose after the death of his girlfriend. The band is no longer together although they periodically do reunion shows with their original bass player. The singer John Lydon has other projects including his band PIL. The guitarist has a radio show in L.A. They were an important part of the British punk scene of the 70s.

The bass guitarist died from a heroin overdose ~2 years after this came out. Everyone else is still alive, and still active in music. The most celebrated and famous of them has been the singer, John Lydon (Johnny Rotten), who would go on to be in an innovative band called Public Image, Ltd. He would also pioneer rap-rock fusion in the 80s, and, to add the cherry on top of a storied career, he was instrumental in kick-starting rave music in the earlier 90s when he collaborated with Leftfield for the song 'Open Up.'

This was the Sex Pistols' first single, released in November 1976 and by February 1978 they had broken up. You may notice that there are two different bass players in this video, the punk looking one is Sid Vicious and he died in 1979, the other one is Glen Matlock and he is still alive, as are the other three. The original four, with Glen, reunited for some shows in 1996, then again in 2002/3 and 2007/8, but they've been inactive since and it doesn't look they're going to do it again. The singer, Johnny Rotten, completely changed his singing style after the Pistols with his new band PIL, and when the Pistols reunited he pretty much used his PIL voice on the Pistols' songs. I liked that you mentioned the melody in this. One thing massively overlooked in punk of this era is that while it might have been unashamedly raw, it still had some really good tunes. It's basically rock with an edge, and all the pretentiousness thrown away. It's music to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up - something sadly missing in the music of today, generally.

If you listened to John Lydon speaking (lead singer) you wouldn't believe it's the same guy,very eloquent and very perceptive in language. From the pistols he was lead in PIL public image limited. Great review 👍

The singer Johnny Rotten (aka John Lyndon) is still alive. His band after Sex Pistols was PiL (Public Image Ltd.) Check out his 1984 collaboration with Afrika Bambaataa in "World Destruction". Bassist Sid Vicious died with his girlfriend 1979 (their story was made into a movie).

This song was from the 70s. I saw them in the 90s and they were fantastic. It was a great night out. Just as raucous as you'd expect. If you want a couple of other blistering punk recommendations, I'd suggest either the Damned - Neat Neat Neat on Supersonic. Or Lesibu Grand - WFS.

All the members of the band who contributed to the song "Anarchy in the UK" in 1976 are still alive. The bass player for that song when they recorded the single was Glen Matlock. Glen co-wrote most of the songs. He parted with the band at the beginning of 1977 because of arguments he had with the singer, Johnny Rotten aka Lydon. Glen was replaced by Sid Vicious, but Sid couldn't play the bass; he was only there for show. On the Sex Pistols' album, recorded in 1977, all the bass parts were played by the guitarist, Steve Jones. Punk rock began in New York City in the mid '70s, but the Sex Pistols took it to a different level, creating punk for the UK. The Sex Pistols had a few reunion tours in the '90s and 2000s which included Glen Matlock on bass, but it doesn't look as though they're going to do that again. John Lydon's wife has dementia and he's taking care of her. He doesn't have dementia. Thanks for your review of this great groundbreaking band.

My earliest childhood memory is when the Sex Pistols appeared on a TV show shortly after this song was recorded and there was outrage after they used bad language though they were provoked by the TV presenter. The mid 70s was a grim time for the UK with a depressed economy, high taxes, strikes and the government finances were so bad the UK had to get a loan from the IMF. Young people were pissed off and established rock bands were considered pompous and aloof resulting in the Sex Pistols and the Punk movement.

Everybody who matters in that band is alive and old. Johnny Rotten/Lydon recently toured with his other band PIL, and guitarist Steve Jones might still have a radio show called Joneseys Jukebox. The only dead member is Sid Vicious, who was pretty much hired by the bands slimey management for his image.

"Anarchy in Bedrock" by Green Jelly ... Also "Three Little Pigs" and "Bear Song" and there are a few more that might not be ready for prime time. The Sex Pistols were amazing and fresh and were so totally undone. If anyone had known what to do with them and handle them they might have made more than that one album. I sang this at Karaoke once, at the time John was advertising butter on the TV. I made up new lyrics, I can't remember most of them but I do remeber: 'There are many things to put on your toast, I like butter the most, marge is very unhealthy, who eats Stork SB. Cos IIIII wanna seeeee, buttered scones for tea.' I was a bit disappointed in John for making a commercial at the time, but now I can see it was a very punk thing to do.

For a little background check out the movie "Sid and Nancy." Sid Vicious was a band member, but he's not with us anymore. The movie is fiction, but it's based on true events and there's a lot of stuff about the band.

Johnny Rotten the singer, Steve Jones the guitarist, Paul Cook drums and original bass guitar Glen Matlock are still jumpin! Sid Vicious, the wrongly maligned 2nd bass player killed his girlfriend (accidentally or....?) then flew off with the HERON. (Sid and Nancy aint too true but is a great flim!)

I was young when punk started, I did like it but by 79 I got into 2 tone and post- punk , new wave .

I can assure you, plenty of people hated this song back in 1976. Classic song classic album. I think all of the original line up are alive, but Sid Vicious [who played bass after Glen Matlock left] died from a heroin overdose back in the 70’s

They're still alive, except for their 2nd bass player, Sid Vicious, who died from a heroin overdose. They occasionally reunite and do limited tours, though they're in their 60s now.
