Calling someone a "swede" in Denmark, is literally a insult we have developed through culture. We and Sweden are honestly just sassy neighbors xD
@IQzminus24 жыл бұрын
We don’t have that in Sweden. But saying someone acts a bit dannish would definitely be super insulting. In Sweden the negative generalisation of Danes would be tactless/inconsiderate, loud, sexist, racist, unserious and being behind the times. Basically a drunk 50 year old man that makes inappropriate jokes and comments. That would be the stereotypical Dane in Sweden. Don’t really know where most of that came from or where swedes learn it. I mean the racist and sexist thing I get, but don’t know if we are much better anymore with Sverige demokraterna growing so much, but at least we haven’t put them in power... yet... What are the negative connotations associated with being Swedish in Denmark?
@TheKaty19964 жыл бұрын
IQzminus2 for example being overly politically correct, always following the rules, being a bit uptight. And of course: bad hairdos (svenskerhår (mullet)). But in my experience, it is allways said in a light and joking manner and not really a full on insult. I think most of us agree, that the bashing is mostly just for fun. And the reel “hate” is only when the Teo contries compete in soccer. Does it make sense?
@hiho19994 жыл бұрын
@@IQzminus2 We mostly call you guys blonde, stupid and outsiders (more or less), but calling us racist and sexist.. seriously??
@IQzminus24 жыл бұрын
Kathrine Marie I did not see the mullet coming but I love it. That’s so funny! Here it’s just called hockeyfrilla, because a sort of concerning huge part of everyone who played hockey had a mullet in the 80s. So yeah we sure had some bad taste in hairdos through the ages. Thanks it’s just super interesting to get to hear what a stereotypical Swede or Swedish behaviour is considered to be in Denmark. I think it’s a sibling rivalry thing. Loving to poke fun at each other and teasing but when it comes down to it we have a pretty great and close relationship for being neighbouring countries. But I don’t know how mutual that rivalry around football is. We definitely have that with Finland about hockey and Norway with anything concerning skiing. But it’s only our women’s team in football that is any good. So I think it’s only the hardcore football supporters that really care about football here in Sweden. Though there are quite a lot of them. They might be on board about that rivalry, but at least the everyday Swede don’t know about it. With hockey and skiing everyone at least sort of cares because we actually have a chance at winning the olympics or World Cup.
@tetea72574 жыл бұрын
@@IQzminus2 I disagree a little with what have been said on the soccer. We are still friends in my mind, even when we play soccer. When you play against another team, in every sport really or doing anothing basically, I totally cheer for you. But when we play againts each other, we of course have to win! :P I don't think of the mullet. I think longer hair on men though. And a little more blondes. And what's up with systembolaget??? I don't understand why people don't complain, that you can't just buy alcohol where and when you feel like it :P Actually the very first thing I think about when someone say Sweden, was one of the times I was in Sweden with a friend when I was in the eight grade. And a super cool guy with a skateboard and dread locks tried to open the door so he could get out of systembolaget with several boxes of beer, but I ended up opening the door for him and he talked a lot to me in swedish and I just though it was so cool meeting a person that didn't talk danish, that I just ended up starring at him and he looked super confused because I didn't answer :P I panicked because I had to figure out if I should answer in english or danish and I panicked so much, that I ended up not answering back. So he probably still think to this day that I was swedish :P I think of meatballs right away. Fika is awesome! You have a lot of awesome swear words! Fy faan, jävla fitta! We basically just have for helvede. And I think of cheap candy and the amazing nature. Then I think about, that you always seem to take the jokes between our two countries more serious than us. I know it's really just joking, but at sometimes, some point, it's not really funny anymore. I also think of moose crossing the road and everybody in the car always sees it but me and I'm totally jealous! And I think of Liseberg. I had an amazing time there and I won a 3 kg kex. I had to bring it with me on the ferry home and everybody looked :P Then I think of IKEA, Abba, Pewdiepie and the youtuber stefan Thyron :D And I can literally keep of going.... .

[NO] - мαяιυѕ. ツ The language? Well, it is old norse, thus similar to Icelandic. They used to speak it in Scandinavia as well, however, the Scandinavic languages gradually changed. Faroese is vastly different from Norwegian.
@johanfagerstromjarlenfors5 жыл бұрын
Well yes and no... norwegian, icelandic and faroese all together form the western part of the north germanic languages while danish and swedish form the eastern part. Danish and swedish are very close related to eachother. Norwegian in modern days though is more close related to the eastern languages cause of danish rule during long time and probably isolation from the other western languages. Faroese and icelandic sounds very different.... extremly.... but written they look similar and in many ways they are similar. But also very different. I would say that faroese is extremly more of its own language than norwegian, danish and swedish are different from eachother😂 cause in modern day danish, norwegian and swedish all three are so closely related that they litteraly form just one languages with three dialect groups that has several dialects within where some dialects borders the groups and have similarities from two groups. Faroese however is very own just as icelandic. You can probably tell them apart easier than you can tell the scandinavian languages apart (unless you are scandinavian or nordic or speak a language from here). A lot of people not speaking scandinavian languages can’t tell them apart at all. Just as most people can’t tell apart different accents of a foreign language. But icelandic and faroese are more destinctiv different from borh scandinavian languages and from eachother and all other languages in the world. The only thing i can think of some of those two sound similar to something else is that icelandic can sound a little bit like finnish... probably cause of the way of form the vowels and how the consonants lies in the mouth... but it’s easy to tell them apart cause ... icelandic you can here the familiar ways of form sentences etc... that like all indo-european languages have quite similar.... and finnish is a whole different family.
@Hjaltedc5 жыл бұрын
@@johanfagerstromjarlenfors I do see and acknowledge your points. Conversely, I am born and raised in the Faroe Islands, and therefore I speak Faroese as well as Danish (Danish is also an official language, but only spoken with Danes). You are right about Faroese, Icelandic, and Norwegian being in the Western Scandinavian languages. Nonetheless, Danes generally have an easier time understanding Norwegian than Swedish. I am aware the Norway was in the Kalmar Union and the Oldenburg Monarchy for centuries, which had a tremendous influence on the Norwegian language - hence Bókmál. It is very easy for the Faroese to understand and learn Scandinavian languages, since we learn Danish from an early age, thus making us well-equipped regarding learning Eastern Scandinavian languages. Furthermore, Faroese and Icelandic are similar in various ways; and yes, the written language is very understandable, except from the "natively forged words". From a Western point of view, we perceive Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish as being in the same box or classification, whilst Faroese and Icelandic are in our own separate box. Subsequently, Finnish is a whole different topic, sharing more similarities with Hungarian. You are right about Eastern Scandinavians not being able to identify or pin-point Faroese nor Icelandic, since it is scarcely spoken in the East - especially Faroese - since we speak Danish. The Faroese language and culture is a quite esoteric, which makes it quite difficult for foreigners to acquire a more cumbersome insight into the lifestyle. Anyhow, what I was expressing was that Faroese should be included in these kinds of videos, since it is a very rare and exotic language, and thus not heard by many. People often forget that we have our own language. This neglect is caused by people thinking that we only speak Danish. Even Danes are exceedingly unaware of the Faroe Islands, with teachers either not knowing about the country or they are pontificating about something they are uncertain about, resulting in some sort of indoctrination regarding stereotypes and history. My question to you is, should Faroese be included in such videos, or is it irrelevant or inconsequential? You said yes and no..

@@fridal5218 Yes, hence the expression "Gräset är grönare på andra sidan." You might individually feel so and that's fine. However, I as a Swede personally find the Swedish language to be extremely musical, more than all our neighbours. Swedish is extremely fluent in music and singing. That's not because I'm Swedish, that's because I love music and can disconnect myself from understanding Swedish when I listen to music. In my ears, Swedish singers hits your soul the best. That is just my opinion. I cannot say your opinion is wrong, that's totally fine, Norwegian is beautiful as well and if you find that prettier, you are perfectly entitled to that.

@@fridal5218 You said you are born Swedish, right? How can you not compare another language to your own? I will tell you, you have to relax and "forget" your language in your mind. You must be able to listen to your mother language and still only hear the sounds and tones. It helps with drugs such as alcohol and such, or the mental, meditative strength to just zone out and be an observer of yourself. It is doable. Lean back to such an extent that you forget Swedish words. Then you can compare the languages. Lyssna enbart på stavelser som du inte språktolkar, stryp din egen språkförståelse. Det är så jag har gjort. Every time I have leaned back enough to not listen to the text of a song, I have always found Swedish to be the most melodical and musical language I have ever heard. So sharp, so hard, so soft and so creative. I'm not a patriot of Sweden, I just find the Swedish language to be incredible for music.

@johanfagerstromjarlenfors5 жыл бұрын
Thomas Sørensen I have the opposite opinion. Swedes speaks so boringly monoton. I can accept that blekingska, skånska and halländska can be seen as beautiful but then we talk about like a different language than swedish😂 with lot of danish words and other similarities. No danish is deffenetly the most beautiful and singing and nice language of the north. I always think that danes speaks like they’re proud and like they have a very strong meaning with what they say. Like if they always really have a strong will and they believe in what they want. Swedes just seems bored and tired when they speak... norwegians seems to just putting up jokes whenever they open their mouth. Icelandic is raw and powerful but also poethic and finnish is gangsta’ I think that the fact that danish is easier to understand than most swedish and norwegian dialects and easier than icelandic.... and probably don’t have to mention finnish in this cause it’s not even related.... that also makes me love danish more. (Together with blekingska, skånska and halländska cause they are also dialects that’s possible to undertand unlike most of sweden and norway) Greeting from blekinge

As a fellow Dane, I definitely agree. Swedish sounds like a fairytale. It sounds like love and passion, fierce and cute at the same time.

I´m swedish, do you danes understand icelandic? I think it´s beautiful but very hard to understand, kind of like norwegian mixed with some swedish dialects.

@@rymdalkis ikr. I was so confused because I was literally questioning why Swedish and Danish didn't sound different at all. I think that Danish woman forgot to bring her potato with her lol

I'm Swedish and imo Swedish with Finnish accent and Icelandic are the hottest/cutest.
