this is complicated. language scholars say that the bible is a library. outside of the bible, Hebrew and Greek speaking people wrote other works of fiction and non-fiction. they wrote ligal contracts and historical accounts, as well as poetry and tall tales. language scholars are able study these fore reference, and then look at the bible speculate and what type of literature is being used. the bible says that all scripture is useful for leaning about God. the bible also says that all scripture is breathed from God. these things to not explicitly mean that the bible is entirely literal.
@dillonlboyer2 жыл бұрын
@@625098evan The problem that can arise with this line of thinking is that it becomes incredibly easy for people to pick and choose which biblical moral laws they want to uphold, often because they are predisposed to want to avoid some (hard to flow against the current of culture for some people). Whether or not Job is a historical account has no bearing on the moral teaching of the OT and NT, which have to be taken literally. There is no indication, from Jesus or the apostles, that the moral law should be viewed as anything but literally. We should remember that Jesus was a fundamentalist regarding the scripture he quoted. Are we Christian students above our teacher to act differently?
@browserboy19842 жыл бұрын
@@625098evan basic nuance is required when studying the Bible. There is quite a bit of allegorical and metaphorical content in the Bible. People with alterior motives take what is obviously literal and claim it to be metaphorical, when it contradicts what they want to be true. @michaelking10913 жыл бұрын
@@memarie9373 It was a very hypocritical answer. One which only looks logical if you separate logic from ethics. They’re separate categories but he answered with a double standard. “You should listen because I’m asking you directly.” Ok... but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s asking him a question on his position and if you’re not going to listen to him then there’s no point. He’s just going up to get a “zinger” and look good in front of his friends. What his question demonstrated was someone who’s arrogant and doesn’t care about wasting his or other peoples time. Nothing logical or impressive about his answer.

@@say7628 hey! Those were two cities that sinned a lot and God destroyed them because of the wickedness of those people
@footsoldier11883 жыл бұрын
@@say7628 a good example of sins that we commit everyday, is breaking the 10 commandments. The more we sin, the more we push ourselves away from God (as an unbeliever). It corrupts our behaviors as Doug said, and twists our spirit and thinking about what God has actually sent us down here for: to worship Him. The only way to allow our sins to be completely covered/cleansed is through Jesus sacrifice. He was sinless, and paid the FULL price for us, in order for us to be made righteous through Him. And how can He “just forgive us” bro? You get me? Like there doesn’t seem to be any other way but to come down and show us how to live our lives, and giving Himself for us. That’s true love🙏🏽

You can just sense in the air that the room is filled with a demonic spirit. The way they're asking/talking so arrogantly and interrupting, it's so sad. They don't want answers or even want to hear what he has to say, they just want to justify their ungodly lifestyle and shout scriptures and claims out of context. The hostility and ignorance towards Jesus is mind blowing. Let's pray for those students! Doug you handled it so well and with the Fruits of the Spirit, God bless you brother.

I would say most people are sexually immoral by biblical standards, not just the LGBTQ. I agree that a huge percentage of people are self-indulgent and have to regard for the sanctity of their body (again, not just the LGBTQ). There are gay Christians, such as myself, who do have moral standards and live lives that aren't so shallow, although I would say it is quite rare. It pains me to see how some Christians rule out the possibility that gay people can live righteous lives. Sexual orientation has no bearing on ideological beliefs and values.

It seems like the predominant mindset of the students is: "if it feels good why is it wrong? I'm a professing Christian but don't think the Bible is true. I know people who live in open sin and they are nice to me, so God must approve their behavior. All my friends affirm these types of behaviors and I want their approval, so I'm going to affirm them as well. My beliefs are based on pure emotion rather than intellect and logic. And if you disagree with me I'm going to call you all kinds of names, refuse to listen to most of your views, and misstate your views that I do halfheartedly listen to." Sad but true. God bless you Doug Wilson, you're a man of courage for doing what you do.

I'm rewatching this and am admiring yet again Doug's kindness and forbearance. He looks at them and probably sees a lot of lost souls who are still God's children and who he has hope for; I see a bunch of sex and gender obsessed young atrocities who would benefit by having the shit slapped out of them. As someone else here said, "the mob is demonic." Listen to how 99% of what was asked centered around justifying homosexuality...it's an OBSESSION with these people. Not all of these kids can statistically be gay. It is obvious that they feel they get clout from coming out as gay or trans, and they're desperate to feel like they're somebody. Which is why when they announce it into the mic, they pause for applause.

He missed an opportunity with her. She began speaking of intimacy and that's a topic that is lost on many teachers even. Another person opened the door for the subject earlier when asking if he'd ever gone to sleep and awakened thinking about the same person... that's the level of intimacy God is seeking with us. Every day we don't give Him that, (and we give it to someone/something else) we commit adultry. That young lady most definitely got filled with the Holy Spirit... overwhelming peace in the circumstance of suffering and demonic oppression... Lifelong wounds instantly healed and the holes of a neglected heart filled to the degree that the loved only seeks a container to pour into.

@@outerspacebass was hoping I’d see some comments about her. He definitely missed out on an opportunity that could have opened the door to more productive discussion. I would by no means try to justify sin in any way, but having been raised in the church (as a son of a pastor), in adulthood I’ve realized the far more destructive sin that’s common from those behind the pulpit is pride. Pride and sense of control (power and/or authority) very often blinds many church leaders from recognizing the opportunities the Spirit places right in front of them that may open door to non-believers, but is tossed aside for sake of maintaining their sense of control over a discussion. That Spirit was using that girl to shift the discussion towards God’s unfailing love/mercy/grace/acceptance, but Doug passed it up to instead continue trying to convince the audience through rebuke, rather than transitioning to explain God’s compassion. Derek Prince discusses how he recognized that trying to make people feel guilt was just doing the Devils job for him. The Holy Spirit convicts, but the enemy uses guilt to deter people from being productive for the expansion of the Kingdom of God.
