@Diamant There 's an issue though. The primary hypothesis of your syllogism, mainly "God does exists" and "God exists as according to the Bible" are far from being axioms universally accepted. This is a very famous example: A: All men die, B: Socrates is a man, then A + B -> C: Socrates will die. But syllogisms (which, by the way, are mainly Aristot's work, not Platon) only work if your primaries hypothesis are true. Lets take now A: all fogs are green, B: Socrates is a frog, and C: Socrates is green. Well, the relation A + B = C is indeed true, but the premices are false, therefore the syllogism is not valid at all. From a purely logical point of view, the existence of God (or of an entity which created the world) is impossible to accept nor deny simply based on rational calculation. However, the veracity of the Bible is extremely easy to refute. From the age of the world (6000 years old according to James Ussher, prelat of Ireland) to Noah who "shipped every species on the Ark", there is a lot of incoherent things in the Bible. And I don't even talk about theological issues, like the fact that if God is good, just and all powerful, then why is there so much bad in this world ? I have nothing against believers, but please, do not try to make the existence of God sound logical. Logic is not the tool of religion, faith is. They don't have much in common. As Pascal would say, "the heart has its reasons that the reason ignores"
@alioshax7797
@alioshax7797 3 жыл бұрын
@Diamant You took it personnally xD why ? You're bringing syllogism in here, while it has more or less nothing do to with the inital answer. And I don't doubt you know your aristotelian logic, but again, you're the one bringing neoplatonism in this. I like the quote though. Didn't know it. Where is it, in the Critique of Pure Reason ?

@@alioshax7797 I think the mistake here (sorry for the English, I'm from Brazil) is that you are interpreting the Bible as some book that is read in school that is meant to tell a cohesive story from beggining to end, when in reality is a collection of stories, told by many years, that now only have the gist of what is important to them, to provide us with wisdom. Clearly, there was no such tower that could reach God in the sky (the Babel tower), because there is no realm in the skies (as we are flying trough them all the time right), there is not physical figure of god, and people years and years ago could not have possibly build a tower that big, it is not true, but of course it is not, the intention of the Bible is not to tell a set of cohesive stories that happened, but to present us with stories (myths that of course did not happen) that have wisdom in them, and have a loosened logic (explaining some causality because of God, or having mystical creatures) for we can't comprehend properly all there is to know in relation to wisdom, using elements purely seen in this world (as a naturalist like Tales de Mileto would like to do) - In this example, Tower of Babel of course did not happen, but the story in the Bible surely can tell us how vanity (the obsession and wanting to get to the skies with God) can create confusion, or in another interpretation, that the bigger a system gets the more likely it is to attract a lot of people, each people with their own subjectivity, to a point where people are "talking in different languages" - can't see eye to eye - as it happens in the story. Most "cientists" today think of the Bible wrongfully as an attempt to record the past - As well as many "believers" interpret wrongfully in this manner too.

Many comments here admire Wilson for his strength, courage, and composure in the face of seething hostility. That is certainly appropriate. But let me point out something in this connection: The worst 'enemies' of men like this are not these hecklers but other 'Christians' who, through fear and other weaknesses, side with the world and, effectively, kick him in the backs of his knees while he is taking his stand for the Lord.

It wants to run out in the road and chase cars. It's that dogs right to chase cars. But the man builds a fence. Not to be mean or to show authority. It's because he wants the best for it and to protect it. We're the dog. Cause we have as much understanding of eternity as the dog has about being run over. Women have the same rights except pastoring. Abortion isn't a women's right it's a licence to kill a child for convenience. Gay and trans that's a hard spot cause you may feel it's just part of you. @@ericharrell5149 Women are not dogs. They are people, human beings, with free will. Women performed labor outdoors even in ancient times. Jesus spoke to a woman presiding over a well. They were not cooped up inside barefoot and pregnant, cooking and washing dishes 24/7. That idea was a product of the Nuclear Age: The Nuclear Family. I think abortion is evil and a sin, but by stopping women from having access to safe care, they will jeopardize their own health on top of the babies for fear of going below the poverty line or sinking further into strife. That is what conservatives miss. Pro-lifers and Pro-choicers could meet in the middle if both sides were Socialist and sought to reduce income inequality. Financially stable women don't seek abortions as often as they would if they were poor or under threat of being poor. You can't call yourself pro-life if you think pushing women to consider extreme measures like the coat-hanger or suicide is acceptable. You're not lowering the number of abortions, unless you expect the state to become Orwellian and investigate every miscarriage that occurs so proper punishment and "justice" occurs. You're just endangering two lives instead of one.

@Richard Fox i'm not sure exactly what you mean. The fact checkers are human too and atheists as far as i can tell are not all dumb enough to believe everything. I would say for the most part they agree with a lot of things Douglas Wilson had to say. I'm not a believer in god. I'm more of an agnostic and I really liked his analogy with coke and the dr pepper I could not have put it any better that's all what a human is to me a simple mechanism. Although after he said that if humans are just mechanisms then nothing matters. I would tell him that the word "matters" to me has no meaning if you don't have someone that things matter too . Kinda like maybe a computer cares about freeing memory. And the mechanisms we are have things that matter to us and they include others. But I also agree that we are changing and if we don't have some sort of stable moral code we stick to who knows where we will end.

A great many right should not be right, and should be privileges. For instance. Do American citizens currently have the right to own Guns? No. If they have commited a felony then they do not. This means that this "Right" is in actuality, a privilage. Not a right. Many of our rights should not be considered rights. There is a reason the Founding Fathers didnt say Anyone could Vote. The primary reason is the point of needing people connected to the land/country. Of you have no stock in it, you dont get a say. That is unbelievably fair for a voting system. I would say that in general only land holders should be allowed to vote, and only those that actually own their land. No mortgages. This makes certain that you/the voter has a definite stock and hold in the Land itself. I realize that this could cause issues, but the point still stands. When everyone has a say, no one has one. This is only one of the many reasons for land holders only being allowed to vote, but a very important one.

Why not “they aren't following God’s way” or something. And everyone at first assumes that non-binary folks aren't real, but once it's explained to them or they do some research they usually change their minds. @@Kalama_Llama_King_Kong Refusing God's Word, as Adam and Eve did originally, is what landed us, as sons and daughters of them, here in a fallen world. As logic follows reason and cannot contradict itself without rendering itself invalid and unreasonable, logic will always agree with God's Word for the same reasons. Logic is not higher than God's Word but rather shows God's Word to always be THE source of truth as all valid science does. I cannot help it if a scientist, looking at the order and design of God's creation, will not admit that by design implies and requires a Creator. Likewise I cannot reason a fool into faith. I must rely on the power of God's Word to bring someone to salvation. When the fall of man happened in the garden, all of man fell: spiritually, physically and mentally. The Bible saying so is our sole hope for redemption through the work of Christ's atonement on the cross. So, the call goes out to all--REPENT and BELIEVE in the Lord Jesus Christ. They Bible says there is only one name by which you may be saved. (John 14:6).

The people interrupting him aught to be ashamed of themselves. Let the man speak for crying out loud, and wait until the end to ask questions. He is going to give you a chance to rebut him, just let him make his point. It is incredibly rude and uncivilized to shout out in the middle of a formal speech such as this. If you can't abide by that unwritten common-sensical rule, then you should not be attending this kind of event. I think it is absolutely appalling because not only does it distract him, but it distracts all of the viewers, both live and on KZbin. Good stuff. Thank you. I’ve been homeschooling for 22 years. I was just getting my bearings when Vision Forum and The Duggars were influential. It’s been interesting. I’ll say that being a Christian, (Reformed Presbyterian at that) “stay-at-home” homeschooling mother of five daughters and two sons in this time has not been easy. Of all of the challenges I’ve had to fight uphill on, like sickness, injury, poverty, extended family complications and death, multi-State moves, ankle length skirts, on and on… the very biggest challenge (outside of my own sinfulness) has been difficulties within our marriage because of roles and responsibilities. The Devils have a stronghold here and they know it. I have spent YEARS struggling with heavy miseries and heartaches because I have desired the biblical family picture, and my husband is content with simply abdicating most of his calling. He works over forty hours a week, attends church all day every Lord’s Day, and reads the Bible to us every night. So he checks off the boxes and checks out. Off to his phone and a beer he goes. He simply will not actively engage in a conversant, intellectual or emotional connection with me or the children. The harm this has done and continues to do, in undermining what I’ve laid my life down for is devastating. However, I am finally, at forty-four years of age, learning that the decision to be pitifully dissatisfied or content is mine. I’m finally getting the picture. Jesus commands me to be thankful and content, not murmuring, for my own good and the blessing of the whole household. It’s true. I am a supremely hard headed and quick tongued woman. God help me. I have wasted so long putting my own happiness and contentment up on a shelf out of reach, just waiting for my husband to do x,y,z so I could finally enjoy those blessings. Well, guess what? Hanging my hopes on a sinner was stupid, and I’ve had enough. I’m done! Nowadays I’m enjoying my marriage to my less than perfect husband, just like he’s always done without complaint, with me. Post modern feminism and weird distorted patriarchies have perverted gender and marriage roles so drastically that many people simply cannot understand that happiness in marriage is possible, even with imperfect people. Now that I’m seeing my own son in law striving to be an excellent husband in this modern world, and my own son growing into a sixteen year old young man, I’m seeing my own husband in a new light. I’m finally seeing that he has tried his best in a battlefield.

Yes Christianity teaches traditional values, but it is so much more, it points out the nature of humanity. It tells us what we all know, primarily that none of us meet those standards and when we look at ourselves and those standards honestly it is self evident. It also gives us the message of hope for us, God demands perfection, because he is perfect and we are not, yet Christ died for us, the holy God died to be just and the justifier of those who believe in him. A moral standard is a side effect of the key message, the gospel.
