Common question: Do you have to flip the wiring when you flip the neck pickup? Answer: No, the physical orientation does not affect the phase/polarity electrically, so no wiring changes need to be made.
@paperhanger29
@paperhanger29 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Lucas. Ordering these today. Thanks for the demo. Really sold me. Obviously wiring wasn't an issue. Any issue by reversing the neck with install? (Ie, screws...fire.....side the wires are on the pickup). I wanna be sure to provide my local luthier all the needed info. Cheers

@@paperhanger29 I had no issues with installing it in the standard Gibson cavity route there, but your mileage may vary of course. And if you use the triple shot ring the install will be even easier.

They certainly do! Great tone, great playing. This is one of the videos that convinced me to buy the P-rails for a new custom build. Very excited. I'm glad you demonstrated the inverted neck pickup sound on the rail single coil. I love the SRV sound you get out of it. Does this compromise the P-90 sound on the neck at all?

I can guarentee you cannot buy a stock guitar for that price that plays so damn well. These pickups, floyd rose, les paul shape, lightest thing in the world. Mind blown. Especially Kramer being a Gibson owned company, the les paul shape just looks right. Thankyou for posting this video, this inspired me to do it in the first place.

I do not use my tone knobs ever (on none of my 3 guitars), so I could install a 3 Way Switch instead of the tone poentiometers for every pickup (I really hate the idea of the frame switches. I play live a lot and it just screams "BREEAAAAAAAKING IN THE WORST MOMENT!!!!!!!!!" for me). I play a Helix (LT) as well so I could do lots of stuff with the different pickup settings on the guitar in conjunction with my presets. God damn, now I am really teased and curious... Gnahhhh I am going to do it any ways. I know it. Ask me in 10 months, and my Les Paul will sound like a wobbly down tuned Tele with bad strings ^^

Lucas, this is a really "Great" Video my friend. You couldn't have done a better job showing every variation, I could think of, with an excellent explanation. I have a 2019 Gibson Les Paul Classic that I'll be having the pickups changed (with the Triple Shot), as soon as all of this virus is over, and the Seymour Duncan P-Rail is what I want. By the way, you can play your butt off. A question please, I basically play the Blues with this guitar, in your opinion, would you stay with the "Vintage" pickups ( on both Neck & Bridge) or get the "Hot" P-Rail on one (Or Both)? Thanks so much for all of your time and effort. Yes, your hands say lots about your sound, but a really good set of pickups will "NEVER" hurt anyone IMHO...

Great demo, superb playing and tone!! Skynyrd, GFR etc.❤ Q: There is significantly much more hum going on with the middle position. Is there a technical reason for that or just the standard “double the hum” from double the PUs? Also what amp are you playing and how do you set it? Sounds quite bright which I like. Many other videos sound dull in HB mode. Also, is there a volume drop with the “weaker” PUs or are they compensating for it somehow or did you have to put on a compressor (and eq ; ) while recording? Thanks! Cheers from Berlin!

The pickups (and your playing) sound great, but I just had to comment on the high-gain quote from "Blue Moon" near the end! 😆

LIKING that Neck Rail.... I kind of hope my project guitar's pups are good but if I need to replace them.... this just went to the top of the list.

Hey man, I already left a comment, but I have a question: what does it say on your truss rod access cover? It definitely doesn't say "Standard" and it looks like the first word only has 2 letters, so it doesn't say "Les Paul". To me, it looks like it says "Le Paulo" lol. Do you mind letting me know what that says?

Love the playing man! From a more technical standpoint, I was curious if you disassembled and reversed the magnet position in the inverted neck pickup? Just trying to discern if the tones you’re getting, which are incredibly diverse, can also be attributed to a difference in polarity. Enjoyed the video, demo song choices, and the fact that you did a great job of sonically displaying the potential for these pickups! Very helpful, thank you!

Good question! No, I did not reverse the magnet. There is a common misconception that reversing the pickup's orientation will reverse the phase, which is inaccurate. Electrically, the pickups are still in phase with each other. Only if the magnet is reversed relative to the pickup will the polarity change and thus reverse the phasing. Thanks for the compliments and comment!

A very impressive demonstration. I will look into this set up. Reason I'm looking at this, my PRS Santana SE has an electronic failure yet to be diagnosed. These are a good candidate for replacements. I am wondering how reliable the rings are. A follow up video further down the line? again, excellent job on the demo, in the top demos I've seen.

i just ordered a custom relic Cabronita/Esquire-style with 1 of these in the bridge. based on this, sounds like it's gonna be a great match for my sound and style. (excellent playing and tone as well!)

Great video. Thanks for this demo. I’ve been looking into these and I didn’t understand why the rails are by default pointed towards each other. That gives them a position not standard on strats/teles. I was going to do the neck pickup flipped like yours, but now I’m thinking about flipping the bridge one too to give the bridge rail more crisp brightness to it. Did you use 500k pots with this setup?
