By the way, the "only using 10% of our brains" thing is an inaccurate choice of words. We USE all 100% of our brains. It's just that not 100% of the thing is lit up at any given moment. If it is, that means we're having a seizure.
@miguelleis48275 ай бұрын
I think the phrase was also mistook to begin with. If memory source correctly, someone was doing the first brain study and it said at their current time, they only knew 10% of what the brain do.
@IONATVS5 ай бұрын
Yeah, when you scan a brain and check for electrical impulses, on average only 10% of the neurons are firing at any given moment, but they’re still all doing their JOBS. IE firing WHEN they get the combination of inputs that they’ve been trained to report, but NOT when they DON’T.

It originated from a quote that daid something along the lines of "we only know the function of about 10% of the brain", but through a series of misunderstandings, became "we use only 10% of our brain"
@Meiaiscool3 ай бұрын
Yeah basically you're only using around 10% at a time. You don't always use the same 10%, it's just that not all 100% is necessery every second of everyday. Sometimes you need the part of the brain for physical activity, sometimes the part for logical thinking, and sometimes the part for i dunno, processing emotion. It's just like your phone. You don't always use 100% of your phone, right now you're only using youtube, and maybe a few other things are running in the background, but some are turned off because they're not necessary right now.

2:00 Paper money is valuable because it's TECHNICALLY a receipt for valuable metals. The British "pound" originally meant the government owed you one pound of silver.
@multilk63995 ай бұрын
yep, that's the original reason for the value of most currency afaik
@dynamicworlds15 ай бұрын
Actually no. Even when money _was_ coins of precious metals it's value came from the government accepting it as payment for the taxes it collects under threat of violence. THAT is why there is universal demand for it and it always circulates above the value of any prescious metals which may or may not "back" it and why even tally sticks (when they were accepted by the government) could circulate as money. It's a common misconception because we get taught mythology in econ classes. If you want to learn more I highly recommend "Debt: the First 5000 Years" (which you can find the audiobook of free on KZbin if you prefer listening to reading)

There's like a 70% chance this has been done before, but Alien discovers Humor: H: **laughing at an image** A: Human, what are you doing? You sound... ill. H: I'm just laughing at something I find funny. A: What do you mean "funny"? H: Oh, you wouldn't understand. It's a human thing. A: Try me. H: Okay, I'll give you an example of something funny: H: A man walks into a bar. "Ouch!" A: What part of those words causes you to exhale air in such a strange way? H: Maybe you just need more examples. Here, I'll give you a book of jokes. A: I doubt this will work, but I suppose I'll give it a shot. **a few hours later** A: I think I may have finally figured out this whole "funny" thing. H: Really? A: Most of these "jokes" as you call them seem to involve the multiple meanings of words in your language. In your example from earlier, this was the word "bar" meaning both a place to purchase drinks and a long, thin tube of metal. My theory is that this is supposed to be a display of intelligence, with the person telling the joke signifying their intelligence through the ability to use and understand the human language to the recipient, and the recipient performing this "laughing" action if they understand the joke, signifying _their_ intelligence to the person telling the joke. H: That's... a great description actually! I couldn't have said it better myself. A: Really? Finally, you humans are actually starting to make sense. By the way, what was the image you were laughing at earlier? H **shows them the image** A: And how exactly does the phrase "this unpleasant gradient shows up on your front door" written above a low quality image of a multicoloured gradient seeming to stand on a porch signify intelligence? H: Uh... A: ... H: ... A: Remind me to never say " you humans are starting to make sense" again. H: I'll be sure to.

Theoretically you could buy it by the gallon for somewhere between 10-50 bucks, buy several packs of syringes, measure out the dosage and pretty much save your self 5-6 hundred bucks a year. Never let aliens interact with us Aussies, our natural instinct is to not only mock people but gaslight tourists. Soooooo if an alien had questions about say… a drop bear… there would be some terrified aliens.

Drag racing H: Have you heard of this thing called drag racing? A: No… what is it? H: Its about making vehicles travel 1/4 of a mile as fast as possible starting from 0 kilometers per hour A: That sounds amazing! For what purpose is it though? Is it to advance acceleration in vehicles for faster travel? H: … well no A: … then what is it for? H: … well its cool A: why? H: Let me show you … A: I understand…

There's a problem with Humans Are Space Orcs posts that tends to bother me a lot when I see them, and it's that aliens are always baffled by human things, when it's probably likely that they'd have similar things themselves. I understand that aliens wouldn't be very alien if they were exactly like humans and had everything we did, and that weird alien biology and culture could lead them to never having the things humans do, but surely aliens would have some things in common with humans just by virtue of being sentient beings with thoughts and feelings For instance, why wouldn't aliens be familliar with the concept of cooking food? Do they just eat their food raw? Do they never do anything to prepare their food for consumption? And wouldn't aliens also understand the idea of entertainment and fiction? Do you think aliens just never get bored? Or get feelings they want to express in the form of art? Speaking of, a lot of HASO posts tend to treat aliens like they don't have emotions that they act on. Aliens are apparently just cold, unfeeling robots that operate on pure logic.

There's probably different species out there that do and don't have what we have. That could be the reason. Idk- /gen

3:23 If the first thing you bring up to anyone, alien or not, when talking about Thomas is, that, then you’re officially banned from talking about Thomas. In fact, don’t bring it up ever. Just don’t.

At 5:00 Am , the Universe made me for no Reason suddenly think about how cool & Funny the antrophomorphical Spaceocs used to be - And there is actually a new Compilation, and im just 4 Months to late, which is not so that late, considering the fact that i basically forgot about for years. Hopefully i´ll find some more after this - TNX 🎈✔ P.S unfortunatly I have no low Control about the subconscious usage of capital Letters, poppin up seamingly random in middle of the Sentence i wrote. in Germany write in such freaky ways, and here is maybe the longest text i´ve ever wrote in english. And as i recognised it, l rather went the whole way down down the alley, and wrote a long explanation to excuse me instead of doing a much faster correction. 😂🤷♀ - And my Grammer is crappy too.
