Kenny, those DAWs look so stunning with those bright yellow spines - the same way they looked when i bought them off the store book racks back in the day. Cheers!

Hi Gary. Yes I'm always thrilled to get DAWs in mint with spines as they should be. I'm not normally too fussy about condition because I'm all about vintage nostalgia. But with DAWs that's different. Thanks for watching.

That Hello Lemuria hello cover by Kirby at the end was the star of the haul for me… got me interested in the artist

Josh Kirby is one of my favourite SF artists and he did a lot of work for DAW books. Check out this video I made a while back. It has a beautiful portfolio by him kzbin.info/www/bejne/jqjXl4BqhLSLnacsi=xqDtRv7co1tLlZ7I

Some fabulous covers there. The only problem with watching other book tubers channels is that the tbr list only gets bigger. Best wishes and happy reading to you.

Thanks very much. Yes, I know exactly what you mean - it's a hazardous byproduct to be sure. In my case it's more of a "to be collected" list.

A great DAW book haul there, Kenny! I don't know if they're published with yellow spines...but DAW published two more Dumarest books, " Symbol of Terra" (1984), and "The Temple of Truth" (1985). A nice selection of books by my favourite author: Marion Zimmer Bradley. I totally agree with you about Ms Shapero's artwork - standards definitely dropped at DAW. And Darkover books are still being written today. Deborah J Ross, something of a protégé of MZB's who mirrors her style of writing, has her next book: "Arilinn" coming out in November - SO looking forward to it. 😁

Those two Dumarest books were slightly after the yellow spines. Of course the earlier volumes were too early for DAW. I've a barrowload of MZB's books but have never read her at all. Not my thing to be honest.

It may be a book club, but those early Dune Trilogy omnibuses are collectors' items: I've seen them a time or two listed for a pretty penny in Andy Richards' Cold Tonnage catalogue! 🤣

Hi Paul. Yes I did a quick check on ebay and it ain't cheap. Good investment for 2 quid. I bought it because I love Dune.

Besides the Goulart books, your book haul looks to be in tremendous condition! Spine fading is something I don’t worry too much about as long as the book itself is in good condition. Adds a variety of yellow hues to your bookshelf. How many left to find?

Hi Richard. Luckily I'm not a condition freak so if you're going to take on a project like this then you can't afford to be too fussy. Fortunately most of my DAWs are in tip-top shape so it's just the spines that vary a bit. I have 10 more coming which puts me 10 away from 75% completion which I'm very happy with. So I will have 425 books needing another 155. That sounds pretty doable in theory BUT many of the books I need are either scarce or expensive or both. Also the regular prices for more common books are on an upward trajectory - at least in the UK. Still, if it was easy it wouldn't be a challenge.

Hi Kenny, I too have a hardback containing the first 3 Dune novels. Mine was published in 1984 by Heinemann / Octopus just after the original movie was released (which will have been when I bought it). Cover features scenes from the movie - pretty dull - not as nice as yours. I must revisit the first novel as I remember not enjoying it as much as others. Remember not particularly liking the character of Paul Artreides much. Have never read the rest of the trilogy. A DAW obsessive... you... never 🤣! I'm going to have to give up watching these videos of yours they just make me so envious that I can see myself doing something stupid like buying a large bundle of DAWs from the US and paying the exorbitant postage 😱!

Hello Peter. Dune is one of those novels that stayed with me over the years. Even before the movie came out I could still remember some of the main characters, even after nearly 60 years. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but it really captured my imagination at the time. Strange that I never re-read it. This DAW obsession is getting a bit out of hand to be honest. And yes . . .I've thought about looking to the US because there are so many more options and cheaper too (generally). But, as you say, the postage is a killer. I think bundles would be the only sensible way but I'd probably have more than I wanted. Might not be a bad deal for you though. Anyway I'm back to the net to look for more . . .um . . .need I specify ? Good to hear from you and take care.
