SFM is a DEAD END | TF2-Trifecta for Blender

The TF2-Trifecta is an easy-to-use tool to allow user to create Team Fortress 2 Content in Blender while staying faithful to its stylized look. Utilizing its four tools (used to be three, hence the name), artists can pose and clothe mercenaries easier than in their native counterpart, SFM. To summarize, Wardrobe grants easy access of any and all clothing items, Merc Deployer spawns mercenaries in their highest quality, Bonemerge binds items to mercenaries, and the Face Poser lets users easily manipulate the face.

Amazing work! As a GMod animator, the only thing that keeps me from fully utilizing blender is the ability to easily spawn props and place them in the world. GMod is a different beast compared to SFM and Blender; it is closer to Stop Motion, but just on the computer, what with the physics engine and all. Either way, I look forward to giving it a try!

thank you! and to answer your question, not really. however, i have planned to port the HWM L4D2 models, but i distance myself from the idea because i want to move away from porting as a whole. these ports would have been compatible with the face poser.

absolutely, you should get a feel for blender. i have interacted with so many people who jump straight into blender, a program of infinite possibilities, just for the purpose of doing TF2 in blender. they don't even have a care for how it works, but have the gall to complain about not understanding something that they would've learned provided they watched some tutorials. i recommend watching andrew price's donut tutorials to get a feel for how blender works, how to navigate the UI, and etc.

Any chance there will be an update to MercDeployer that'll allow for the spawning in of other SFM models so long as they follow the ValveBiped hierarchy and vmt materials? An update like that would be a massive step in removing the barrier between SFM and Blender for more than just TF2 creators, but all SFM users.

unfortunately, there's no chance. Merc Deployer is just a glorified way of appending/linking models. it loads a pre-made model from a source file while re-using textures and node groups. along with that, it does a few touch-ups to ensure the model works in its new environment. the addon does not decompile or re-rig a model in anyway

these models use SFM models, meaning that the faces are HWM and do not match the in-game facial models

@@hisanimations Gotchya, when selecting the facial hair things I notice they have shape keys or something (not a very technical blender user XD) that do move them with similar pose library things as the face has, I havnt messed with it much yet but is this the only way to move them to match the face? And is there ways to make them go extream like the face or am I stuck with the shape key options that are presented

Not sure on how this it's set up internally and can't dig into it at the moment, what would the basics of the setup for something like that be like?
