YOOOO THANK YOU FOR THE SHOUTOUT Side note, this was a very lovely and fun way to introduce the many peculiarities of SFM and put them to use! I could say a lot about my love-hate relationship with the program but I am extremely grateful that it has helped me get this far and achieve my dream job. My hope is also to make my future youtube content primarily using blender, perhaps I should follow your example to learn as efficiently as you have with source! Big respect for giving yourself this challenge and being open to new experiences, the community absolutely welcomes you.

Thanks for checking out our small but dedicated community! SFM for a lot of us (me especially) was a huge starting point for entering the world of 3d animation and movie-making in general. While many old-timers have since moved on to become real professionals, some of us still stick around and use it to animate as our program of choice. I probably could have transitioned to Blender 5 years ago, but to this day I still regularly use and love the original SFM for it's speed and amazing animation tools (... for a free program!)

Just like all other animation platforms it offers some really unique tools, but because its Source it is very buggy and outdated, carried by custom plugins and community content. There is just some stuff you can do in GMod that you can't do anywhere else, more options means artists can better express their art, even if the tools are rusty.

ngl its relieving to see a video about someone using SFM for the first time and it's not called "sfm is PURE AGONY" or anything like that. SFM holds a special place with me bc it's just so easy to drop in and start animating, sure there's a lot of limitations but there's things SFM does BETTER than a lot of industry standard programs (the motion editor is an absolute godsend for layout and the clip editor is pure wizardry) and a lot of those limitations can be overcome with clever and creative use of its tools

3:27 I love how this looks like an old school Lazypurple animation. It's funny saying that, as if Lazy animated for years or something. Like, if you rewatch the How it Feels series, you notice that a lot of his SFM starts off relatively basic. It looks REALLY good from start to finish, but Lazy was trying to figure out SFM just like anyone else would. This is even evident in his behind the scenes videos. His animations got exponentially better with time, as he slowly learned to relinquish his sanity more and more for it (which, thankfully, he has begun to address, and everyone is accepting and encouraging of him) Let me get back on track. Essentially, the way Lazy might have begun animating with SFM must have been similar to this experience Corax had. Granted, they're both in different leagues, even now. It's crazy to think how similar their thought processes must have been. You record gameplay footage, and transition from one frame of gameplay, to one of custom animation rigging. A sort of cinematic smoke and mirrors kinda thing. You could call this timestamp "How it Feels to use SFM for the first time"

As someone who dabbles with Gmod and SFM, SFM is great for all the reasons listed, but i think one of its biggest strongpoints but i guess also weakpoint is how straightforward it is in comparison to say Blender. Like you will always know where to check for how the face rig works and what its options are, but unless you go through a whole hootenane to change it you cant do any custom stuff. Im currently trying to learn Blender and SFMs relative simplicity is always such a easy crutch to potentially fall back on, especially from a asset library standpoint, tho i dont miss the landmine hellscape that is the source asset browser that can crash SFM if you land on the wrong model. For larger projects SFM can potentially be a nightmare, also anything effects and particle wise is so simple in comparison to Blender . In any case, was funny to see someone go backwards from Blender, but it did make for a interesting video

@@RayZrAnims 2d animation maybe shorter but sfm is the easiest 3d software I know, but everyone has an opinion

Holy moly, it's pretty cool to have Corax content that isn't short animations (mainly about jerma)! I obviously love that stuff, but it's neat to see people branch into other types of videos!

FRIGGIN STELLAR JOB! I loved watching it and I'm friggin wild about seeing a video focused on yourself. I've been a HUGE fan way back in your grump era and seeing both you and your resurface has been an absolute treat

I don't understand anything about SFM and neither knew about your other animations, you just popped in my recomendations and I watched your video because of your character's hypnotizing big ass nose.
