This is so highly affective that most if not all Fortune 500 companies employ the CEO and Senior Vice President roles for their structure of leadership. I believe it was Forbes magazine that did an article in this regard. That a large percentage of these companies have CEO’s that have previous military experience.

Don't forget the senior enlisted advisor to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: SEAC Troy E. Black, USMC! Semper Fidelis!

Transitioning to regular civilian jobs and taking orders from your company? It's something you can navigate through. Nowadays as a business owner I look forward to working with the veterans in my area.

I try at my job but it ain’t easy. I focus on the things I can control and lead by example. Leadership comes to me for advice so I guess you could say it works in reverse as well. Semper Fidelis 🇺🇸

My observation on butter bars is if they allowed Staff Sergeant to gently mentor them they advanced. On the very rare occasion when the young Lt thought he knew it all trouble ensued my one recollection is that he was made Officer in Charge of the gym. Then he was transferred out. My experience with butter bars was they wanted to do a good job and thus listened to the Staff NCO. Betcha they drilled into that at Quantico.

Doesn't work in the civilian sector. The Boss is the boss. Depending on the size of the company below the Boss is the VP...or Assistant manager. The rest are just good ol employees. No SgtMaj position. Additionally, years ago you had employees that started in a company. At the lowest level and over the years worked up to a supervisor role. Maybe a manager position. Things have changed now. You work long enough to gain some knowledge and experience. Resume building. Then put word out, built your reputation and when a new and better offer came . You took it and moved on and up. Continuing the pattern as far as you can go. Loyalty is where you draw your check from. Leadership and management skills and applications in the civilian sector. Are far different than in the military. Specific knowledge of the job is not always needed to be the manager. Often the company looks at the level of education only. Lastly, what rank you held in the military. What awards you received. None of that means squat in the civilian sector. Actually, in some cases, it can be detrimental. Civilians don't react to the "military mindset." All your employee expects from you.. be on time, work and do your job while you are on the clock, clock out at the end of your shift. Nothing else matters. On that same note. You keep walking in trying to give me advice etc.etc... I am going to think you don't have enough to keep you busy in your job, or reconsider the need for your position, and I am going to look into how well you are actually doing in your job. Plus I am probably going to tell you. You might of been a fine SgtMaj in the military...but I didn't hire you to be a SgtMaj..

It will work , unfortunately civilians like gossip, and point fingers they won't take ownership of their mistakes. We are taught leadership at a young age as we join. And not to fear just make a decision and rune with it. They are afraid to make decisions. Military are fearless and we listen to each other.

The concept of the senior enlisted advisor in the Civillian workforce is a horrible idea. Because in the service, the Senior Enlisted is too segregated from the rest of the workforce to be able to advise anything. So what it'll amount to just like in the Marines is a bunch of E-8s and E-9s getting together that don't do the amounts of labor that justify their paychecks. I'm sure that they did their time to gain that position. But I don't respect their time. I only respect results. And I can hire an 18 year old with an IQ that doesn't even allow him to graduate Highschool to do an E-9s job for half the money and twice the rate of labor. And in all of my career an E-7 or above Marine has never once shown me any additional knowledge in either profession or morality that has ever made made me value them or respect them above an E-1 at any capacity. It's just one man's opinion, no shame in it.
