If there's one thing I absolutely love about Sonic the Fighters, it's the soundtrack. It's so bombastic and full of energy, I can't help but feel the need to dance whenever a song from the game plays.

Yeah, some of the better themes are the Flying Carpet level, the Aurora Icefield level, the River level, the Death Egg MKII, and Sunset Town (Honey's dummied out stage, which sadly didn't get the finishing touches Honey herself did in this version)

+shadow fighter 360 Take note, in Sonic 06, assuming the game takes place around the year it came out(2006/2007), Silver and Shadow go back in time and leave a Chao Emerald behind. In that point of time, there are now 8 Emeralds. Now you could argue that Elise had it that whole time, or that Sonic 06 isn't canon/erased itself from canon. You'd be right. You're in the ballpark, just not the right one. Yes, 06 is not canon, it was meant to be a retcon of the entire series. Neither is "Sonic the Fighters", a spinoff game. Also, 10 years ago from Sonic 06's supposed setting? 1996, the year Sonic the Fighters was released. "Sonic the Fighters" and "Sonic 06" are part of the same canon, by complete and utter accident.

Sonic the Fighters/Sonic Championship is a fun Sonic fighting game, but on the online version for the PS3 and Xbox 360, there is no training mode and nobody plays online.

This game did see an international release as Sonic Championship, but because Sega of America somehow thought the game was too violent, it was very limited so it was exceedingly rare to find a cabinet at the time

A huge arcade on The Strip in Las Vegas had a Sonic the Fighters cabinet in it when I lived there from 1994-1998. It was still there when I visited in 2009, and still worked fine. I'd play it as much as I could. And there's nothing wrong with making a wacky fighting game starring wacky characters. Considering some of the things Mario and Sonic do to their opponents, a punch in the jaw is the LEAST violent thing imaginable.

Since Sonic Adventure they've both applied in both regions, except they don't mention it in Japan. Or the rest of the world these days. Like in Generations where Classic Tails calls Classic Eggman "Doctor Robotnik" but he says "Nobody calls me THAT anymore". It's still canon, just never mentioned.

The secret hold start characters don't work on the Gamecube version, but I'm pretty sure you can use a Gameshark or something to play as them on the Gamecube version.

Fun fact on how this game came to be: One day one of the people who made fighting vipers got board and decided to make a Sonic and Tails fighting model. His bosses came in and though the models were great and decided to make a fighting game out of the two models.

Yes. Honey herself was only gotten via hacks until the HD release (her data was in the game code, but the game would crash when she's chosen I believe?). Meanwhile, Metal and Eggman are HD only.

Hyper Mode is a nice way of using up a barrier to do a lot of damage, but it really does look like invincibility :) Just like the glitch to put Tails in "super form" in Sonic 2, with that debug character switch box :D
