I have both ICE and EV cars, it's not that I drive cautiously. Its simply because most roads in Singapore do not allow us to freely unlock the true potential of my EV. I can accelerate faster with my EV but I'll get held back by cars in front of me or traffic lights

Most ice cars are hybrid. Pure ice cars is sun set, even for Toyota. Hybrid has the same issues as EVs. Car battery, chassis being molded one piece etc. So it doesn't matter.

What about in car crash? EV tend to be safer for passenger due to large battery holding the impact and crush zone The car will be write off, ur life is saved. Unlike ice car, car can repair but chassis compromised and life lost

Very good summary but you guys could also easily have pointed out that battery replacements costts are so high that insurers may compel a write off of a damaged car more often than we'd like .....

Regulations have to keep up with market developments. Allow chassis repair within reason!

Even with regulation changes, it still doesn’t necessarily change the high cost of repairs. Based on my own experiences dealing with insurance claims, if the repair cost hits a certain threshold, the insurance company will opt for write off and compensate only the mkt value. So what happens if the mkt value compensation is lesser than your outstanding loan😮

All the regulations to make sure cars are safe, but worker transported on truck bed still ok. Is same like malaysia road transport department checking tint VLT % for safety but ignore all the road quality issue

You should have also talked about insurance premiums. How much are they? Personally, I don't understand. My 8 yr old Volvo XC60 cost me $2k in insurance. I bought a new car for 185K and pay only $1k. The Volvo cost me $200K in 2015. Same insurer. Clean driving record. To me it is inexplicable.

I have been looking at similar videos warning drivers about EV's and I think this video is very informative indeed. Please keep it up and maybe slow down the narration as I had to look at the words to be able to follow, and there were also mistakes in the words. Anyway, I feel that governments around the world should allow free choice as EV's may suit only certain people. The fire risk is not worth it, as a few large ships carrying them, like the Felicity Ace, have sunken due to fire.

If Tesla designs the large gigapressed part with fracture points at the centre, then the damaged half of the large gigapressed part can be replaced separately?

imagine dismantling your gundam model just to replace 1 part. you'll have to then go thru hoops to find a matching piece. how cheap can it get

I’m confused. How is Tesla’s gigacasting process or a carbon monocoque chassis on a supercar/hypercar being generalised to all EV’s? That being said, though expensive, it’s quite ridiculous that a chassis cannot be entirely replaced by a new one. Considering the skillset and equipment needed for a repair, chances are replacement is safer than repair. A simple clause that it has to be new from the manufacturer for the stated model code should suffice.

EVs do not make sense for almost everyone except those that stay in landed properties (and others who can charge their EVs at the given electricity tariffs). Most public chargers outside charge almost double or more (50 to 60c per kWh) than the normal electricity tariffs. This, coupled with the ridiculous road tax structure for EVs (BYD Atto 3 Cat A road tax is already 1.5k which is almost 3x more compared to a comparable 1.5L hybrid Cat A car), makes owning an EV "to save on running costs" just a pipedream. Unless you can charge for free at work or at the minimum tariff rates, you are better off getting a lower capacity hybrid car (which there are many to choose from nowadays)

If you buy a car, worrying you will get into a bad accident, don't drive. It's this type of drivers who make the road unsafe, because they are so anxious on the roads and get triggered so easily they rage.

Mechanically speaking, most cars are going to be written off in a medium to high-speed crash, as they're designed to crumple to protect the driver/passenger inside the cabin. @sgcarmart might want to clarify their message; there are so many more engineering and design factors involved. I think generalizing it is not the right call.

The total opposite is the classic Volkswagen beetle. Easy to spoil. Easy to fix. You can change one fender without replacing the entire car. Doors are modular. Whole body damage, just swap in another donor body. Rebuild this, rebuild that, runs forever. The number of classic beetles still running in Singapore speaks volumes of the repairability.
