Bullying? ROFL! My drill sergeants made this look like a day in the cub scouts.

I agree. However, I do remember that in receiving a drill instructor who was kind of like this. I was in receiving for a week before being sent to my platoon and the real D.I.s. U.S.M.C. for that week, I actually thought, "This is boot camp ?" And then surprise... three screaming drill instructors and a Senior Drill Instructor. One telling me with a loud stern voice to dig a hole, and another yelling at me to fill the hole.

Near the end of our basic we started to see that these DIs were kicking asses of guys who needed it! They toughened us up and to this day I totally respect them and thank them for doing their jobs and saving lives on the battlefield

This is one of Christopher Walken's most memorable performances, in my opinion. He not only delivers his trademark sardonic, tongue-in-cheek, wise-cracking schtick throughout the film, but later there is a scene of a certain gravity, when Walken's character (Toomey) realizes that his time to train young men into fighting soldiers that must survive the war is nearly over, and forces the issue with the object of his ire (Jerome-Matthew Broderick) so that he finally sees the young private turn the corner into manhood.
@gmh4712 ай бұрын
Matthew Broderick, who did the play on Broadway, noted how much Walken brought to the role because he wasn't what is expected from a drill sergeant, who typically would bark out orders. And that's how the stage Toomeys would do it. Then there was Walken who calmly says in his Walken voice "When I say your name, you say Ho."
