Well, I have been looking for reactions to Shogun and I am happy I found you!!! Thank you for reacting to it!! (I see many are reviewing Shogun but I hate reviews!) (And I am sorry. I am elderly and don't have much income. I wish I could support Patreon but my extra money goes to animal rescue groups.)

This TV series was based on a well-known book by James Clavell and the book itself was very loosely inspired by true historical events and characters from this historical period, including the character of John Blackthorn who is based on a real person. The actor who plays the role of Toranaga is a big star in Japan and makes himself a good brand in the Western movie world through a lot of recognizable titles (John Wick 4, The Last Samurai, Wolverine, Westworld just to name a few). He was also a producer for this TV show and one of his main goals was to depict Japanese culture as it really was with all its beauty, and refinement but also with all the cruelty of that era. John Blackthorn became a pawn in a very carefully plotted political game (that's why he and his knowledge is more valuable to Toranaga than the guns from the ship) but he is also forced to confront his Western point of view with a completely different system of values: for westerners, there is no more sacred value than a life (especially their own) but for Japanese, there are values way more important than a life (including their own).
