It's definitely Southern Snake-style but with elements of Northern Snake. Not surprising really, many systems have crossover techniques and principles. I learned Northern Snake for 6 years and I see more than a few similarities here.

This clearly shows the influence of Kathak (North Indian Dance) with the lotus hands done repeatedly in front and then big as a wholebody movement--just like baguazhang. The snake attacks he does are identical to Liuhe Xinyi method as well. Looks like this is a seed form. Demonic snakes (possessed by homeless ghosts) were the targets of Daoist Thunder Ritual which is a likely link as well taking us back to the Ming Dynasty. Cool stuff!

@henrylazaga
@henrylazaga 4 жыл бұрын
@@Livingtree32 yes anyone can choose if either one one wants to perform or to be able to apply them in fighting. Modern Wu Shu has many snake routines to choose from but even these routines has some fighting applications because their movements was derived from traditional forms. Say for example the form "Buddha Warrior Pounds Mortar With Pestile" from traditional Chen Style Taiji Quan. We also find that pattern in every Chen Taiji Wu Shu routine.
@Livingtree32
@Livingtree32 4 жыл бұрын
@@henrylazaga Yes, but applications are not the important part of Traditional Martial arts systems. What is important is the development of movement qualities, basic conditioning, underlying principles and methods. You can't learn this with performance oriented wushu, even if they teach you applications. You learn how to use your body to perform, not how to apply power.

Got an issue with Animal-style kung-fu; was brought up traditional Korean Tae-Kwo, and we made our kicks very forceful. These kung-fu guys just throw their legs up there like an exercise, not like they're trying to hurt someone. No criticism, just an opinion. I know it's Snake Style, which is a "soft" style, and the Tiger style's kicks are more powerful. Wish to goodness there was someone here in Huntsville to teach me any Chines animal style.
@rolandapruitt2548

An adage to chinese martialarts is that one should look like a young girl dancing when you practice, but when you fight you should look like a tiger. In other words, save your intensity for exercise and fights. Practice is more of a "become accustomed to the routine" thing, since you should be doing it everyday.

Northern Kung Fu styles often use more high kicks that are forceful.

@@runequester6834 Mainly for training and less for actual fighting. Taijiquan, Xingyiquan, Xinyiquan, Baguazhang, Bajiquan, Tongbeiquan, Piguazhang, those are all northern styles and they usually don't use kicks above the waist in fighting.

These Kung Fu forms are just dances, any application is fanciful daydreaming. Learn western boxing and wrestling if you want to fight or this if you like dancing, but don't confuse them.
