I am in the middle of making this bag and need a little advice. I've completed the diamonds panel - meaning all of the 1/4" seams have been sewn according to the back of the template. I've pressed and trimmed it all around. I'm now forming the "sandwich" that will be quilted. For extra stability, I decided to add a layer of heavy Decovil into my tote. So what I have is the diamonds panel, then the flex foam, then Decovil, then my lining fabric. This makes for a pretty thick sandwich. What I'm wondering is if I should adjust my presser foot pressure (less?) and/or use a longer stitch when I quilt everything together. Thoughts?

Wow, Is this fun! I am making the bag right now. I highly recommend this pattern. The interfacing makes it go together so perfectly. One pattern correction to add: In step 2 of the Gem bag binding directions, it says to cut two strips WOF for the binding . It was NOT enough. I found THREE strips will work. Otherwise so far , so good. Thank you SF :)

Hi Suzanne, I have never attempted to add pockets, but I think it could be achieved if you didn't mind some of the pocket seams to be visible from the outside of the bag. If you try it out, let us know how it goes! 💖 -Bethany

I am currently working on this bag. I see you have actually finished one. Question please, did you have to add another 3 inch wof for the binding. Her instructions say 2 strips but it doesn’t go around the main bag part let alone the sides when I add those. Just wondering if I’m doing something wrong
