She was a dear family friend of my parents . Her stage name was Josie Brown and and she lived in Bradford and ran a small sweet shop next door to my parents drycleaning shop on Manchester road Bradford . This was the highlight of her career as the advert was shown for many years even after her passing in the 90’s . She was often in extra parts in emmerdale farm ... the gaffer ... and the flying lady . She had a son who lived in Australia and used to stay half the year with him . She had many famous friends of that time and was fondly referred to as mother . She’s much missed by us and you could never have met such a kind lovely person as her 🙏🏽

Aw, she sounds lovely. As far as Bradford goes, the whole country's gone down the shitter. This is what happens when you don't invest in communities. When governments starve vital services, like schools and housing. Kids grow up knowing their country doesn't want them, society doesn't respect or value them. Society has invested nothing into them, so they aren't invested in society. They've very little to lose. Endless years of Tory government have worn down right through the soles of people's shoes. Deliberate under-investment as policy. Same thing the water companies do, then use "emergency measures" as a matter of course when they've just cheapskated themselves into an "emergency". There's always money for police, never enough for schools, playgrounds, community centres. Always money to punish the symptoms of crime, when you could spend that money 10 times more effectively by reducing the causes of crime. In the old days, you wouldn't commit crime because you'd be ashamed in front of your neighbours. People knew each other and you cared what they think. No more. People don't feel like they belong to their community, or society. Tory philosophy doesn't even admit that "society" and "community" exist, except when they're trying to cadge favours off it, or dump severely mentally ill people in it. People keep voting for greedy, miserly, nasty people, then they look around and wonder why society fucked up, and assume that poor people are probably to blame somehow. Or people who don't look like we do, even if their family's lived here 60 or 70 years, and there's grandfathers among them who were themselves born right in the Bradford Royal Infirmary. It's obviously some fellow poor person to blame (and you are poor, if you're not rich). Don't look at anyone who has, y'know, money or power. What do _those_ have to do with society?

@@greenaum yes we remember her very fondly x my parents are now 92 and I’m in my 50’s and so saddened by the degradation of the inner city where we lived for decades . We’ve ended up moving to a rural area for the sake of peace and quiet. The city is full of poverty and crime it’s really heart breaking to see what was once a brilliant city turned into ashes . I hope to God things will change but it’s highly unlikely once the rust has set in its very difficult to revive a city . We have our Bradford council to blame and southern Government who have left the north a poverty stricken abyss .
